About the Role:

Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. Our Labs team plays a critical role in achieving this by building the end-to-end lab testing experience that helps patients understand their health, from ordering and sample collection through results, clinical review, and personalized next steps.

As a Senior Engineer on the Labs team, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for building and optimizing the patient-facing experiences and back-end services that power lab testing at Hims & Hers. You will design, build, and iterate across the full stack, from modern, performant front-end interfaces to reliable back-end services and integrations with lab partners, ensuring every feature is accurate, dependable, and delivers measurable impact for patients.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with product, design, clinical, operations, data, and other engineering teams to launch new tests and workflows, improve the results experience, and refine the patient journey from ordering through results and follow-up care. By combining strong technical execution with a product-minded, data-informed approach, you will help more patients get meaningful insight into their health while improving the overall quality, reliability, and performance of the Labs platform.

You Will:

  • Lead the design and architecture of scalable, performant full-stack solutions that meet product requirements and enhance the patient experience.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on best practices, design patterns, and coding standards.

  • Advocate for your team's technical priorities and ensure alignment within the broader engineering organization.

  • Participate in product discovery sessions to assess feasibility, explore patient and clinician needs, and validate ideas through prototypes and experiments.

  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive, engaging interfaces that help patients understand and act on their lab results and improve order completion and engagement.

  • Build and maintain reliable, well-monitored integrations with external lab partners and internal clinical systems across ordering, fulfillment, results ingestion, and clinical review, with strong attention to data accuracy, privacy, and compliance.

  • Work closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and communication across systems and services.

  • Contribute to the team's technical vision by identifying strategic technologies and investments that improve scalability, reliability, and performance.

  • Break down complex projects into clear, actionable tasks and lead execution to successful outcomes.

  • Elevate engineering standards by improving workflows, processes, and tools to increase development velocity and quality.

  • Analyze product, operational, and patient feedback metrics (such as order completion, kit return rates, and time-to-results) to identify optimization opportunities and drive continuous improvement.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture, integrations, experiments, and development processes.

  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives across the team.

  • Model a culture of open communication, feedback, and continuous learning by coaching and supporting teammates at all levels.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of professional experience building production web products with strong full-stack skills in React/Next.js and Node/TypeScript (or similar).

  • Proven experience delivering scalable, high-quality web applications and services in a modern cloud environment.

  • Experience building and operating third-party integrations and asynchronous, event-driven workflows (queues, webhooks, retries, idempotency) where correctness and reliability matter.

  • Proficiency in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js, GraphQL) and back-end technologies (Node.js, Nest.js, PostgresDB, Redis, Amazon SQS).

  • Track record of shipping experiment-driven features that improved conversion, activation, or retention; comfortable with feature flag systems and experimentation platforms such as GrowthBook, Optimizely, or LaunchDarkly.

  • Fluency in web performance optimization, accessibility, and modern UI engineering, with an eye for presenting complex information (like lab results) clearly and responsibly.

  • Strong analytical and data skills, including event instrumentation, debugging analytics, and writing basic SQL or partnering with Analytics to define success metrics and guardrails.

  • Deep product mindset: cares equally about UX, copy, and pacing as about architecture and APIs; approaches problems with iterative, testable solutions.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD pipelines, including automated unit and integration testing.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in balancing speed, quality, and impact.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to align partners, make tradeoffs explicit, and drive initiatives from idea to execution.

  • Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of prioritizing multiple projects to meet goals with minimal oversight.

  • Bonus: experience in healthcare or another regulated domain (HIPAA, PHI handling), or with diagnostics/lab partner integrations and standards such as HL7 or FHIR.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):

  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution

  • Offsite team retreats
