Hitachi is a Japanese conglomerate founded in 1910 by Namihei Odaira as an electrical repair shop inside a copper mine, which grew into one of the country's largest industrial groups. After a decade of restructuring it now concentrates on digital systems and services, green energy and mobility, selling grid equipment through Hitachi Energy, trains and signalling through Hitachi Rail, and storage and data platforms through Hitachi Vantara. Its Lumada portfolio ties operational technology to software, and the 2021 acquisition of GlobalLogic gave the group a large digital engineering arm serving customers outside Japan.

Job Description:

The opportunity :

Join our R&D team and lead the industrialization of high-power conversion platforms for renewable energy and energy storage applications. You will work in a global, cross-functional environment alongside R&D, operations, manufacturing, supply chain management, quality, product management, and suppliers to turn product designs and prototypes into safe, reliable, and scalable production. In this role, you will lead the India R&D Industrialization team, with primary responsibility for industrialization and subsequent support for current and future PCS product platforms. You will own manufacturing readiness, industrialization-lab capability, pilot builds, supplier and component qualification, engineering-change implementation, localization, cost reduction, and production ramp-up throughout the product lifecycle.

How you’ll make an impact :

  • Lead the India R&D Industrialization team supporting current and future PCS product platforms, defining priorities, objectives, resource plans, competencies, and delivery commitments aligned with the global program roadmap.
  • Build and execute the power converter industrialization roadmap, and own industrialization readiness across product documentation, manufacturing processes, assembly methods, tooling, fixtures, test infrastructure, quality gates, pilot builds, and production cut-in.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls-related, and process industrialization activities with global R&D, local operations, manufacturing, supply chain management, quality, product management, and suppliers.
  • Establish and operate the India industrialization laboratory, including assembly areas, industrial workstations, tooling, fixtures, material handling, test infrastructure, ESD controls, and safe working procedures for high-power equipment.
  • Ensure the readiness and quality of manufacturing deliverables, including bills of materials, electrical and mechanical drawings, 3D models, assembly and work instructions, torque and traceability requirements, quality control plans, factory acceptance test procedures, and packing and transport instructions.

Lead prototype, pilot, and first-article builds, pre-series production, and production ramp-up, ensuring feedback from builds, factory testing, suppliers, validation, and field experience is converted into robust product and process improvements.

  • Establish clear governance, KPIs, risk management, decision-making, and escalation mechanisms for industrialization readiness, production ramp-up, recurring issues, supplier qualification, and engineering changes.
  • Own the industrialization aspects of engineering changes from assessment through validation, documentation update, manufacturing release, production cut-in, and effectiveness verification, maintaining traceability across requirements, BOM revisions, supplier changes, validation evidence, and released configurations.
  • Define validation and requalification requirements for BOM, supplier, obsolescence, localization, and design-to-cost changes, and coordinate electrical, thermal, cooling, protection, functional, safety, and reliability testing needed for industrialization decisions.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable product-safety, quality, environmental, certification, and regulatory requirements, as well as internal procedures and guidelines.
  • Living Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, preferably Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in industrialization, manufacturing engineering, new product introduction (NPI), or product development, including leadership of teams, projects, or cross functional workstreams.
  • Proven experience transferring complex electromechanical products from prototypes into repeatable serial production.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing readiness, design for manufacturing, process engineering, quality planning, and engineering changes.
  • Experience leading cross-functional priorities, resources, risks, KPIs, and factory ramp-up in an international environment.
  • Good understanding of power converters, LV/MV equipment, renewable energy or energy storage products.
  • Experience in supplier and component qualification, technical assessment of alternative components, second-source qualification, or localization.
  • Ability to review bills of materials, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, 3D models, manufacturing specifications, test procedures, and quality control plans.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management, product traceability, change control, DFMEA, PFMEA, root-cause analysis, and continuous-improvement methods.
  • Understanding of electrical safety, grounding, isolation, protection, interlocks, and ESD controls for high-power equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop people, build local capabilities, and collaborate effectively with global engineering teams.
  • Fluent English, strong stakeholder management, and a structured, decision-oriented leadership style that balances safety, quality, cost, schedule, and product readiness.
  • Willingness to travel to global engineering centers, manufacturing facilities, supplier locations, and project sites when required
