The opportunity

To strengthen our Legal Department in Mannheim, we are looking for an engaged Senior Legal Counsel (f/m/d). From Mannheim, you will advise the HVDC business unit of Hitachi Energy in an international environment on all legal matters, with a particular focus on complex bids and EPC projects (e.g., offshore wind connections or interconnectors).

This is a hybrid role, offering a flexible working model with 2-3 days on-site in Mannheim and up to 2 days working from home.

How you'll make an impact

  • Independently advise and support the HVDC business in the drafting, negotiation, execution, and management of complex project contracts, particularly in the areas of sales law, contract for work and services, and plant construction law, both domestically and internationally

  • Support operational units in internal processes, especially in risk review procedures

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, guidelines, and applicable laws, and support their implementation

  • Monitor legal developments and train employees on relevant legal topics

  • Support the adaptation of existing policies or creation of new directives and their implementation

  • Collaborate in national and international project teams with in-house colleagues, other functions, and external counsel where required

  • Work closely with legal colleagues across regions, particularly within the DACH region and Grid Integration Legal Community

  • Defend and enforce Hitachi Energy’s legal claims, including before courts, arbitration tribunals, and public authorities, both domestically and internationally

  • Engage and coordinate external law firms in Germany and abroad

Your background

  • Fully qualified lawyer with above-average results in both state examinations, and 8-10 years of professional experience in an industrial company or law firm

  • Strong experience in plant construction / EPC business, including negotiation of complex, high-value contracts and claims management

  • Familiarity with international contract standards (e.g., FIDIC) and experience in arbitration proceedings

  • Strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and ideally knowledge of public procurement law

  • Ability to work independently, solution-oriented, and in close partnership with the business, cross-functions, and international colleagues

  • Strong team spirit, resilience, and ability to manage complex situations during both tender and execution phases

  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Open to AI-driven solutions, with initial experience in applying AI in a professional context

Das können Sie bewirken

  • Selbständige Beratung und Betreuung des Geschäftsbereichs HVDC bei Entwurf, Verhandlung, Abschluss sowie Abwicklung komplexer Projektverträge (insbesondere im Bereich des Kauf-, Werkvertrags und Anlagenbaurechts) im In- und Ausland

  • Unterstützung der operativen Einheiten bei internen Prozessen, insbesondere im Bereich der sog. Risk Reviews

  • Sicherstellen der Einhaltung der internen Richtlinien und Weisungen sowie der geltenden Gesetze sowie Umsetzung von Richtlinien und Weisungen

  • Beobachtung der rechtlichen Entwicklung und Schulung der Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter zu rechtlichen Themen

  • Unterstützung bei der Anpassung bestehender oder dem Erstellen neuer Weisungen und deren Implementierung

  • Mitwirken in nationalen und internationalen Projektteams mit in-house Kolleginnen und Kollegen aus anderen Ländern sowie anderen Fachbereichen und ggf. externen Beraterinnen und Beratern

  • Zusammenarbeit mit den Kolleginnen und Kollegen der Rechtsabteilungen aus anderen Regionen und Ländern, vornehmlich aus der DACH-Region und der Grid Integration Legal Community

  • Abwehr und Durchsetzung rechtlicher Ansprüche der Hitachi Energy, ggf. auch vor staatlichen Gerichten, in Schiedsverfahren sowie gegenüber Behörden, auch im Ausland

  • Einschaltung von und Koordination der Zusammenarbeit mit externen Kanzleien im In- und Ausland

Das bringen Sie mit

  • Sie sind Volljurist/in mit überdurchschnittlichen Leistungen in beiden Staatsexamina und besitzen mindestens acht bis zehn Jahre Berufserfahrung in einem Industrieunternehmen oder einer Anwaltskanzlei

  • Sie haben Erfahrung im Anlagenbau, insbesondere bei der Verhandlung komplexer, großvolumiger Verträge und Claims und kennen sich mit internationalen Vertragswerken (z.B. FIDIC) aus und haben schon Schiedsverfahren betreut

  • Sie bringen gutes betriebswirtschaftliches Denken, hervorragende Kommunikationsfähigkeiten und idealerweise Kenntnisse im Vergaberecht mit

  • Sie sind es gewohnt, eigenverantwortlich und lösungsorientiert zu arbeiten, Hand in Hand mit dem Business, anderen Funktionen und Ihren Kolleginnen und Kollegen in anderen Ländern

  • Sie besitzen einen ausgeprägten Teamspirit, sind belastbar und geübt im Umgang mit komplexen Situationen in der Angebots- und Abwicklungsphase

  • Sie beherrschen Deutsch und Englisch verhandlungssicher in Wort und Schrift

  • Sie sind routiniert im Umgang mit Microsoft Office

  • Sie stehen KI-Lösungen offen gegenüber und haben auch schon erste Erfahrungen mit der Anwendung von KI im Berufsalltag gesammelt
