Assistant Manager – Procurement

Our client, a leading multinational FMCG organization, seeks to appoint an experienced professional for the following role at its Karachi operations:

Job Role

The Assistant Manager - Procurement will manage the sourcing and purchasing of imported and local raw and packaging materials for assigned categories, including chemicals, vegetable oils, surfactants and fragrances. The role will own category sourcing, supplier negotiation and import management, ensuring the right material arrives on time, at the right quality and at the best total cost, while reducing supply risk and delivering measurable cost savings.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead sourcing for assigned RM/PM categories, including chemicals, vegetable oils, surfactants, fragrances and personal care raw materials.
• Procure imported and local RM/PM against approved plans; raise purchase orders and follow through to delivery.
• Run RFQs, comparative statements and should-cost analyses; negotiate and finalise annual and term contracts with international and local suppliers.
• Manage imports end to end, including Incoterms, LCs and payment documentation, shipping schedules, clearing agents and port clearance; flag delays early.
• Identify, qualify and onboard alternate suppliers to reduce single-source dependency, working with R&D and Quality on trials and approvals; monitor supplier performance and resolve quality and payment issues.
• Convert demand plans into supplier delivery schedules and keep inventory within target days of cover without stock-outs or emergency purchases.
• Track commodity, freight and PKR/USD trends; advise management on buying windows, forward cover and price-increase risk.
• Prepare spend analysis, savings tracking and management reports; maintain a supply risk register and ensure purchasing complies with company policy, audit and regulatory requirements.

Education

MBA or an equivalent qualification, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related discipline.

Experience

4-6 years of procurement experience, including at least 3 years buying raw and packaging materials in an FMCG, cosmetics or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Experience with multinational processes and global or regional suppliers is a strong plus.

Key Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of sourcing raw and packaging materials, supplier development and supplier qualification.
• Proven track record of contract negotiation and documented cost savings.
• Strong hands-on import knowledge: Incoterms, LCs, shipping documents, customs, PSW and port processes.
• Working knowledge of SAP (MM and PP) or a similar ERP, and strong Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage senior management.
• Problem-solving mindset and the ability to manage reporting and multiple priorities under tight timelines.
