Join SP Energy Networks as a Craftsperson (Electrician) and play a vital role in keeping electricity flowing to homes and businesses across our network. In this hands-on position, you'll construct, maintain, and repair LV electrical installations while ensuring full compliance with 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. As an on-site representative of our company, you'll deliver high-quality work to established productivity levels, carry out effective fault management, and act as the nominated person in charge of safety for all works you attend. This is an opportunity to develop your skills in substations while contributing to our mission of achieving Net Zero by 2044.

What you'll be doing

  • Construct, maintain, and repair LV electrical installations in full compliance with 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

  • Deliver all works to established productivity levels while carrying out effective fault management to meet unit cost requirements

  • Undertake and develop appropriate skills for working in substations, contributing as an effective member of Energy Networks

  • Ensure all site works are carried out safely, acting as the nominated person in charge of safety for the duration of all works attended

  • Perform all network operations in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policy and safety rules

  • Manage the development of assigned trainees, including apprentices and adult craft trainees

  • Carry out site and operational risk assessments for your team and contractors

  • Ensure awareness of and compliance with Company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements while working towards a zero accident culture

  • Capture feedback from Operational Safety and Compliance Audits and Quality Audits, addressing any non-conformances promptly

  • Deliver excellent customer service, striving to eliminate customer complaints and promote customer service standards within your area of accountability

  • Complete job planning, obtaining materials, vehicles and equipment

What you'll bring

  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification

  • Completed Craft Apprenticeship or equivalent training

  • Valid ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) card or JIB grading (or equivalent scheme)

  • Full valid driving licence

  • Expert level skills in your main trade

  • Sound knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices

  • Scottish Power Substation Authorisations are desirable

  • Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation

  • Awareness of network development policies and procedures

  • Working knowledge of network and business data management systems

  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems

  • Effective communication skills with customers and colleagues

  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment

  • Capability to make balanced judgments, taking into account all available information

  • Commitment to improving safety and customer service culture across the organisation
