ING is a Dutch banking group formed in 1991 by the merger of the postal bank NMB Postbank and the insurer Nationale-Nederlanden, and it was among the first large banks to build a direct, branch-light retail model. It serves retail customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain and several other markets through mobile-first banking, and runs a substantial wholesale bank covering lending, transaction services and financial markets for corporate clients. Headquartered in Amsterdam and listed on Euronext, the group divested its insurance operations after the financial crisis to focus on banking.

Integrated Risk (IR) provides a Group-wide view of ING’s risk profile, connecting governance, methodologies and risk insights to support senior and board-level decision-making. Within IR, Integrated Risk Oversight (IRO) focuses on oversight of credit risk models (IRB and IFRS9).

The Team

Within IRO, the Model Strategy & Monitoring team steers the regulatory model strategy, ensures that group-wide modelling and monitoring methodologies, model life cycle governance and frameworks remain robust and forward-looking, and oversees & controls model use across ING’s global organisation.

As part of this team, the Risk Model Strategy Expert combines deep technical expertise with regulatory judgement and strategic insight. The role provides direct exposure to senior decision-makers and a clear line of sight to balance-sheet and capital steering topics.

What you will do

  • Define and evolve the Group-wide strategy for IRB and IFRS 9 models, including regulatory approach, model methodologies and governance.

  • Provide authoritative challenge and advice on the use of credit risk models in managing portfolios, capital and balance-sheet dynamics.

  • Drive the evolution of model monitoring, focusing on effective decision-making, forward-looking testing approaches and adoption of modern technologies to create actionable insights.

  • Identify and assess model risks with a group-level perspective, ensuring that credit risk remains adequately capitalised.

  • Translate complex model and risk dynamics into concise, decision-ready insights for senior management.

  • Engage senior stakeholders across the end-to-end credit risk model lifecycle.

What you bring

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field

  • 10+ years of relevant experience across credit risk modelling, model risk management, policy development or supervision.

  • Broad expertise across IRB and IFRS 9 models, quantitative methods and regulatory frameworks.

  • Ability to operate confidently at both technical and strategic level, with track record of turning analysis into structural solutions.

  • Strong judgement, credibility and communication skills when engaging senior stakeholders on complex topics.
