ING is a Dutch banking group formed in 1991 by the merger of the postal bank NMB Postbank and the insurer Nationale-Nederlanden, and it was among the first large banks to build a direct, branch-light retail model. It serves retail customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain and several other markets through mobile-first banking, and runs a substantial wholesale bank covering lending, transaction services and financial markets for corporate clients. Headquartered in Amsterdam and listed on Euronext, the group divested its insurance operations after the financial crisis to focus on banking.

ING, Australia’s most recommended bank, is looking for an experienced Senior Operations Manager - Core Banking Technology Operations to lead the operational management and continuous improvement of the Core Banking technology landscape.

Reporting to the Technology Area Lead - Core Banking, the Senior Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the health, stability, security, performance and maintainability of Core Banking applications, while driving operational excellence across the tribe.

The role partners closely with technology and business stakeholders to define service roadmaps, establish meaningful KPIs, and deliver high-quality end-to-end services that meet agreed standards and SLAs. In addition, the Senior Operations Manager will champion DevOps practices, foster a high-performing and automation-focused culture, and continuously enhance team capabilities and service offerings to support ING’s strategic objective of keeping the bank safe.

Ready to make an impact!!

What you’ll do …

  • Lead Core Banking Technology Operations by triaging, prioritising and overseeing the timely resolution of operational incidents, service requests and technology risks, ensuring adherence to SLAs and service excellence.
  • Own the tribe’s IT Risk and Controls framework, driving risk remediation, control evidencing, operational risk management, governance activities and continuous compliance improvements.
  • Establish and manage patching, vulnerability and security remediation processes, ensuring critical findings are prioritised, resolved and reported to maintain a secure technology environment.
  • Partner with stakeholders across Technology and Business teams to prioritise operational initiatives, communicate performance outcomes and drive continuous service improvements.
  • Develop and execute lifecycle management and operational roadmaps, building business cases and ensuring technology assets remain secure, supported and fit for purpose.
  • Coach and develop team members, fostering a risk-aware, high-performing culture while promoting operational excellence, automation and continuous improvement across the tribe.

What we’re looking for….

  • 10 + years of experience in Financial Services, ideally within Core Banking, Technology Operations or large-scale enterprise environments, with a strong track record of delivering complex technology initiatives.
  • Strong technical background in IT Engineering, Software Development (Java/.NET), Cloud technologies and application architecture, with the ability to bridge business and technology outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IT Risk, Operational Controls, Agile delivery methodologies and continuous improvement practices within a regulated environment.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders, align priorities and drive outcomes across cross-functional teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Technology, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline, coupled with leadership experience in managing high-performing teams and operational excellence.

What’s in it for you?

  • Discounted ING Health Insurance.
  • An additional Rest Day to support your wellbeing.
  • An IMPACT Day to volunteer on approved sustainability activity.
