POSITION SUMMARY

The Digital Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value delivered by one or more agile product teams. Working from the product strategy and outcomes established with the Product Manager and broader product team and stakeholders, the Product Owner translates priorities into a clear, actionable backlog; ensures work is ready and understood; makes timely team-level decisions; and validates that completed work meets agreed acceptance criteria. The role partners daily with design, engineering, systems, architecture, quality, regulatory, cybersecurity, privacy, data, operations, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver usable, reliable, secure, and compliant digital capabilities.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Backlog ownership and value delivery
• Own, order, and continuously refine the team backlog to maximize value and support product outcomes, roadmap priorities, quality needs, technical sustainability, and operational commitments.
• Translate product goals, user needs, business rules, regulatory needs, and technical constraints into well-defined backlog items, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting context.
• Ensure backlog items are appropriately understood, sliced, sequenced, and ready for delivery; collaborate with the team rather than authoring requirements in isolation.
• Make timely day-to-day priority, scope, and clarification decisions within established product direction and decision rights.
• Balance new capabilities, defects, technical debt, cybersecurity, quality, compliance, maintenance, and operational work using transparent priorities.
• Accept or reject completed work against agreed acceptance criteria and confirm that delivered capabilities support the intended outcome.

Agile team partnership

• Provide the cross-functional team with clear product context, sprint or iteration goals, priorities, and rapid clarification during delivery.
• Participate actively in planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives, and other team activities; partner with the Scrum Master or delivery lead on flow and team effectiveness.
• Collaborate with design, engineering, testing, systems, architecture, data, and quality partners to identify dependencies, resolve ambiguity, and reduce delivery risk.
• Protect team focus by managing intake, triaging urgent requests and defects, and making trade-offs visible to the Product Manager and stakeholders.
• Coordinate priorities and dependencies across teams while maintaining one transparent source of truth for committed and upcoming work.
• Support release planning, readiness, validation, deployment, and post-release monitoring.

User and stakeholder collaboration

• Represent user and customer needs at the team level and ensure work remains connected to the problem, expected outcome, and product strategy.
• Partner with the Product Manager and design or research partners in discovery, solution validation, and the translation of learning into delivery-ready work.
• Gather feedback from users, stakeholders, support channels, analytics, and product operations to inform backlog decisions and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate completed capabilities and clearly communicate delivered value, open decisions, risks, and next steps.

Quality, risk, and operational excellence

• Embed applicable quality, regulatory, privacy, cybersecurity, accessibility, clinical, safety, and data requirements into backlog items and acceptance criteria.
• Maintain traceability and support required product development records, reviews, approvals, and change controls within the quality management system.
• Partner with team members to ensure nonfunctional requirements such as reliability, performance, observability, security, supportability, and maintainability are considered.
• Support defect triage and post-market improvements as assigned.
• Use delivery and product data to identify bottlenecks, quality trends, and opportunities to improve team flow and delivered value.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements:

•   Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline.

Required Experience:

• 5+ years of progressive experience in product ownership, business analysis, software delivery, engineering, design, quality, program management, or a related digital product role.
• Demonstrated experience managing and prioritizing a product backlog and defining clear user stories, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and team goals.
• Experience working as an embedded partner to cross-functional agile software teams, including internal or external delivery partners.
• Strong ability to translate user, business, technical, and compliance needs into actionable team-level work.
• Sound judgment and confidence making timely decisions while knowing when to involve the Product Manager or other decision makers.
• Strong facilitation, communication, organization, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience using digital delivery tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira and interpreting delivery and product data.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with healthcare, medical devices, regulated software, software as a medical device, or another regulated industry.
• Experience with quality systems, design controls, risk management, human factors, privacy, cybersecurity, accessibility, or validation.
• Experience with mobile applications, web products, cloud services, APIs, data products, identity and access capabilities, or connected devices.
• Agile or product ownership certification.
• Experience working with distributed or vendor development teams.

The salary for this position will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. This information reflects the anticipated salary range for this position at the time of posting. The salary range may be modified in the future and actual compensation may vary from the posting based on various factors such as geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level.   

Salary

$95,000—$125,000 USD
