Intuitive Surgical is an American medical device company founded in 1995 that created the market for robotic-assisted soft tissue surgery with its da Vinci systems. A surgeon works from a console controlling instruments mounted on robotic arms, and the company earns most of its revenue not from the systems themselves but from the instruments and accessories consumed in every procedure and from service contracts on the installed base. Headquartered in Sunnyvale and listed on Nasdaq, it has expanded into lung biopsy with the Ion catheter platform and reports procedure volumes as its primary growth measure.

Advancing minimally invasive care - it’s the passion that drives us at Intuitive. As the industry pioneer, we pair ingenuity with intelligent technology to make a difference in the world. For more than 30 years, we have developed new, minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world.
