Job Description:

Function: International Legal

Reporting to: EMM Legal Director

Location: Paris, Athens, Warsaw, Bucharest or Prague

Job profile: Legal

Your role :

Join Ipsen’s International Legal team as Legal Counsel for the European Mid-Sized Markets region.

You will provide legal advice and support for the activities of Ipsen’s affiliates across a complex and diverse region representing 17 direct-presence countries and partner markets.

Working under the supervision of the EMM Legal Director, you will support the Marketing & Sales, Medical, Market Access, Supply Chain and Customer Strategy teams across our portfolio, helping to ensure compliance with European legislation and applicable country laws.

What you will do :

Provide general legal advice

  • Support the EMM Legal Director in providing legal support across a complex and diverse multi-country region, covering both direct-presence affiliates and partner markets.

  • Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical law in the launch, supply, distribution, sale and promotion of medicines, as well as in research activities and situations of derogatory access.

  • Provide day-to-day, first-line legal support for operational and/or cross-functional projects.

  • Conduct preliminary legal assessments and prepare summaries for review by the EMM Legal Director.

  • Contribute, under the supervision of the EMM Legal Director, to the legal support of innovative projects, such as digital projects and partnerships, in compliance with pharmaceutical regulations, benefits and transparency frameworks, GDPR, medical confidentiality, intellectual property law, competition law and commercial law.

  • Participate in the company’s quality and ethics culture in every project.

  • Assist in reviewing key contractual provisions and escalate relevant issues to the EMM Legal Director.

Draft and review standard contracts

  • Draft, review and validate contracts and amendments with external healthcare stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, healthcare organisations and patient organisations.

  • Participate in the validation of commercial policies, terms and conditions, single agreements and related documents.

  • Draft, review, improve, manage and maintain forms, template agreements and local contract manuals. Provide relevant internal training and guidance to increase the efficiency and scalability of legal support, including the contract database.

  • Support the drafting and review of agreements and participate in negotiations, as appropriate, for a wide variety of agreements typical of a pharmaceutical company. These agreements allocate risk, responsibility and reward for proper performance and include, for example, confidentiality agreements, consulting agreements and service agreements, among other projects.

Training and education

  • Act as a first point of contact for routine questions related to templates, internal policies and standard procedures.

  • Create and update legal reference documents, including contract manuals and other guidance.

  • Deliver updated contract, legal and data privacy training as necessary.

Monitor local legislation and requirements

  • Monitor and analyse new and developing laws, regulations and enforcement activity within the healthcare industry.

  • Incorporate learnings into internal education, messaging and policy-development efforts, and assist in training sessions and presentations on legal issues and policies.

  • Flag high-risk areas and raise business awareness of changes or applicable laws affecting projects and day-to-day operations.

  • Ensure overall compliance with all applicable laws and ensure that the company’s contractual relationships comply with local laws, regulations, industry standards and applicable corporate codes and policies.

Collaborate across the organisation

  • Conduct first-level legal research on operational topics affecting affiliates and prepare concise briefings.

  • Collaborate across the organisation

  • Ensure smooth collaboration with Group Legal, Business Ethics & Compliance and Intellectual Property functions.

  • Assist in the implementation of International Legal or Group Legal projects and updates to guidance.

  • Participate in International Legal Team meetings.

Key technical competencies:

  • Ability to support a complex multi-country regional perimeter and adapt legal advice to diverse legal, regulatory and business environments.

  • Strong contract drafting, review and negotiation skills, combined with sound business acumen.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across functions and cultures.

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to develop practical approaches and drive matters through to completion.

  • Ability to work independently, learn quickly and escalate complex matters when appropriate.

  • Ability to work within short timeframes while handling a high volume of projects simultaneously.

What you will bring:

Knowledge and experience - essential

  • Qualified lawyer with EU or international legal experience and between 3 and 7 years of post-qualification experience, excluding traineeships and internships, gained within a Life Sciences team in a law firm or in-house within the pharmaceutical industry.
