Principal Systems Lead - Data Center Infrastructure
The System Lead / Product Architecture Owner is a senior individual contributor responsible for technical ownership and architectural coherence across CDU, HVAC, chiller cooling systems, power distribution equipment, and related product platforms.
This role provides hands-on architectural leadership focused on creating scalable, maintainable, and configurable product structures that support long-term product evolution. The System Lead establishessystem architecture, design standards, modularization strategies, and variant logic while driving cross-functional alignment and technical execution across engineering disciplines.
Rather than managing people, this role serves as the primary technical authority for system-level decisions, architecture governance, design reviews, and execution of critical technical initiatives. The position ensures architectural intent is consistently translated into product designs, released configurations, and engineering deliverables while minimizing lifecycle complexity and design churn.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture & Platform Strategy
Own the overall system architecture across cooling and power product platforms, ensuring coherence between mechanical, electrical, controls, and configuration structures.
Define and maintainmodular design strategies that enable product reuse, scalability, maintainability, and isolation of change across product families.
Architect system and model structures that anticipatefuture growth, option expansion, regional requirements, and evolving customer needs.
Establish architectural frameworks that reduce lifecycle complexity and eliminaterecurring design churn.
Continuously evaluate platform health and identifyopportunities to improve scalability, reuse, and engineering efficiency.
Product Variants & Lifecycle Scalability
Define and govern product variant strategies supporting different capacities, ratings, redundancy schemes, and regional compliance requirements.
Ensure variants are implemented through structured configuration logic rather than duplication, exceptions, or manual workarounds.
Enable product family growth without destabilizing released designs or increasing operational complexity.
Drive consistency between architectural intent, configuration structures, and releasedproduct definitions.
CAD Standards & Design Frameworks
Establish and maintainCAD architecture standards, model structure requirements, interface rules, and engineering best practices.
Define templates, skeletons, references, and reusable design frameworks that support long-term maintainability and consistency.
Ensure alignment between CAD architecture, PLM structures, configuration management processes, and release requirements.
Continuously improve standards based on engineering feedback, recurring issues, and lifecycle lessons learned.
Technical Leadership & Design Authority
Serve as the primary technical authority during system-level and cross-functional design reviews.
Guidetechnically sound decisions balancing performance, complexity, scalability, manufacturability, serviceability, and lifecycle impact.
Resolve conflicting requirements or ambiguous design directions by aligning decisions to architectural principles and long-term product objectives.
Act as the escalation point for complex integration challenges and cross-domain technical issues.
Drive technical decision-making, issue resolution, and action-item closure resulting from architecture reviews and critical engineering discussions.
Cross-Functional Alignment & Execution
Work closely with ME CAD, EE CAD, controls, manufacturing, quality, service, and PLM/configuration teams to ensure architectural intent is properly implemented and maintained.
Drive cross-functional execution across engineering disciplines by establishingpriorities, coordinating technical activities, and managing dependencies.
Identifyarchitectural risks, technical blockers, and organizational gaps that may impactproduct development, releases, or platform scalability.
Facilitate resolution of technical issues and ensure timelyclosure of architecture-related action items.
Partner with stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle to ensure architecture supports design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, deployment, and service objectives.
Influence execution through technical leadership, credibility, clear communication, and sound engineering judgment rather than formal managerial authority.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
10+ years of experience designing and architecting complex electromechanical systems.
Demonstrated experience owning system architecture within multi-variant product environments.
Deep understanding of modular design, product platforms, configuration logic, and lifecycle scalability.
Strong understanding of CAD architectures, configuration management, and PLM-driven product development.
Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives involving multiple engineering disciplines.
Proven ability to prioritize work, manage dependencies, drive execution, and achieve closure without direct supervisory authority.
Ability to operateindependently as a senior technical authority across organizational boundaries.
Strongly Preferred Experience
Architecture ownership for CDUs, chillers, HVAC systems, liquid cooling infrastructure, or power distribution equipment.
Experience supporting product families with multiple capacities, redundancy schemes, regional requirements, and customer-specific variants.
Deep familiarity with CAD, PLM, configuration management, and release processes.
Experience driving technical execution within matrixed engineering organizations.
Experience reducing organizational load and increasing engineering velocity through improved architecture and design practices.
Experience supporting both NPI and sustaining engineering environments.
