The Senior Structural Engineer is a hands-onsenior individual contributor responsible for structural engineering ownership of product structures supporting CDU, switchgear, and related data center infrastructure equipment, including frames, enclosures, skids, and anchorage systems. This role ensures that structures meet all load, seismic, transport, installation, and operational requirements across global deployment environments. The position provides authoritative structural analysis, design validation, and code compliance, while ensuring structural intent is accurately captured in CAD models and released documentation.
Therole requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE)with deep experience in structural systems supporting heavy electrical and mechanical equipment. Close collaboration with mechanical, manufacturing, qualityand PLM teams is essential to mitigate structural risk, support regulatory and customer approval processes, and prevent late-stageredesigns or fielddriven corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Engineering Ownership & Analysis
Own structural design and analysis for data center centric power and coolingsystems, including frames, enclosures, skidsand mounting structures.
Proficient in structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, SAP2000, RAM Structural, IdeaStatica, Enercalc, Hilti Profis, ETABS or similar.
Perform and review structural calculations for static, dynamic, seismic, transport, wind, snow, installation, and liveload cases.
Ensure structural designs meet applicable codes, standards and jurisdictional requirements for global deployment.
Required familiarity with ASCE 7, AISC 360 and ACI 318.
Exercise professional engineering judgment as the responsible structural authority.
Seismic Qualification & Load Management
Lead seismic qualification efforts, including floor response spectra evaluation and anchorage requirements.
Evaluate floor loading limits, elevated installationsand site-specificstructural constraints.
Ensure designs safely support heavy components such as large busstructures and transformers under all operating and faultconditions.
Assess interactions with forklifts, cranes, and rigging operations during manufacturing, transport, and installation.
Structural CAD & Design Intent
Ensure structural intent is accurately reflected in CAD models, drawings, and released documentation.
Review and guide structural CAD layouts, weldments, fastener strategiesand anchoring details.
Partner with mechanical and CAD teams to maintainalignment between analytical assumptions and physical design implementation.
Verify manufacturing drawings clearly communicate load paths, interfacesand installation requirements.
Regulatory & Customer Approval Support
Act as the technical authority for regulatory, AHJ and customer structural signoffrequirements.
Prepare, review, and certify structural documentation requiredfor compliance and customer acceptance.
Respond to structural inquiries, findings and deviations from customers, inspectors and third-partyreviewers.
CrossFunctional Risk Mitigation
Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to identifyand mitigate structural risks early.
Support prototype builds, qualification testing, and production rampup through structural guidance and issue resolution.
Proactively identifystructural risks that could lead to late-stageredesigns, production delays,or field retrofits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineeringfrom ABET accredited university.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
10+ years of experience in structural engineering for industrial or infrastructureclass equipmentwith 3+ years in data center design.
Demonstrated experience performing and certifying structural analyses for heavy equipment assemblies.
Ability to independently ownstructural decisions and provide stamped deliverables ifrequired.
Preferred Experience
Masters’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university.
Structural engineering experience supporting CDU, switchgearor missioncritical power infrastructure.
Deep understanding of ASCE 7 Chapter 13: Seismic Design Requirements ForNonstructural Components.
Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks),PLM (Windchill), and BlueBeam.
Active Structural Engineer (SE) license in the United States.
Handson experience with seismic qualification, anchorage design and elevated or constrained installations.
Experience designing structures supporting large busbarsystems, heavy transformers, or other highmass electrical components.
Familiarity with manufacturing and installation interactions, including crane, forklift, and rigging requirements.
Experience supporting customer or regulatory structural acceptance and signoffprocesses.
Core Competencies
Seniorlevel structural engineering judgment and accountability
Strong expertisein seismic, loadand transport analysis
Clear translation of structural intent into CAD and documentation
Riskbased thinking with focus on early mitigation
Effective cross functionalcollaboration without managerial authority
High ownership, rigor, and attention to detail in regulated environments
