Barista

Core Criteria:

• Minimum 2 years’ practical barista experience
• Proven experience operating a commercial espresso machine
• Able to calibrate and adjust a coffee grinder independently
• Bilingual in English and Afrikaans
• Bubbly, confident and outgoing personality with a warm, welcoming manner
• Able to carry responsibility and work independently
• Basic stock control and ordering knowledge
• Reliable, punctual and well organised
• Willing to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
• Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical assessment

• Prepare quality coffees, including cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, americanos and espressos
• Dial in and calibrate the grinder daily and keep extraction consistent
• Steam and texture milk to a high standard, with basic latte art
• Troubleshoot common machine and grinder issues and report faults promptly
• Prepare and serve slush, soft serve ice cream and gelato
• Help introduce new offerings such as milkshakes, frappés and iced coffees
• Run the daily operation of the counter, including opening and closing duties
• Conduct stocktakes every Monday and order stock as needed
• Manage stock rotation, expiry dates and wastage
• Maintain high hygiene, cleanliness and presentation standards
• Recommend products, promote specials and build rapport with regular customers
• Assist with guiding other staff when required

• R35 per hour
• Approximately 195 hours per month, based on a pre-determined schedule
