Logistics Yard Controller

A leading steel fabrication company is seeking an experienced, organised and safety-focused Logistics Yard Controller to oversee daily yard operations, including staging, loading, offloading and dispatch of fabricated steel components.

The successful candidate will ensure materials are correctly prepared, safely loaded and dispatched on schedule while coordinating closely with Production, Dispatch and Stores.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily yard, loading and offloading activities.

• Coordinate loading schedules and dispatch priorities.

• Ensure accurate and safe loading of trucks and trailers.

• Manage yard layout, stock staging and material flow.

• Supervise yard crew and enforce safety and housekeeping standards.

• Monitor forklifts, cranes and rigging equipment.

• Conduct pre-dispatch checks and maintain accurate yard movement records.

• Report delays, damage, discrepancies and safety concerns.

• Ensure drivers comply with yard safety procedures.

Requirements

• Matric or equivalent.

• Minimum 5 years' experience in logistics or yard supervision, preferably in steel fabrication, construction or manufacturing.

• Proven team leadership and coordination experience.

• Knowledge of safe lifting, rigging and load-securing procedures.

• Ability to interpret dispatch lists and loading documentation.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems such as SAGE.

• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.

• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors.

• Forklift or crane certification will be advantageous.

• Willing to work extended hours during peak dispatch periods.
