PHP Developer

In this role, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing scalable web applications using modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including frontend developers, QA, and product managers to deliver robust and high-quality software solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, writing clean and efficient code, and working on complex systems within a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using PHP (Laravel preferred)
• Collaborate with frontend teams to ensure seamless integration across systems
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code aligned with best practices
• Manage and optimise MySQL databases, including schema design and performance tuning
• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement scalable improvements
• Integrate third-party APIs and external services
• Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Education: Relevant degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field

Experience:

• Minimum 3+ years of professional PHP development experience
• Strong experience with Laravel or similar frameworks
• Solid understanding of OOP principles and MVC architecture

• Proficiency in MySQL or similar relational databases (query optimisation, schema design)
• Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, and XML
• Version control experience using Git
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices
• Familiarity with Docker or containerised environments
• Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies is advantageous

• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Must be South Africa-based with a fibre-ready home setup (minimum 100MB line)
