Senior IT Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Engineer to be based at a mining site office in Rustenburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting the company's IT infrastructure, office IT systems, network environment, and cybersecurity requirements across mining operations and related business functions.

This role requires a hands-on IT professional with strong technical expertise, practical mining or industrial site experience, and the ability to support both operational and corporate business environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain IT infrastructure, including computers, servers, networks, printers, office IT equipment, and related systems.
• Provide day-to-day IT support to site-based users and stakeholders.
• Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware, software, operating systems, and business applications.
• Manage LAN/WAN networks, routers, switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi systems, VPNs, and connectivity infrastructure.
• Monitor network performance and ensure stable, secure connectivity for business operations.
• Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls, including endpoint protection, antivirus solutions, firewalls, access permissions, and IT security policies.
• Support Microsoft 365, email systems, Active Directory, user accounts, permissions, and IT asset management.
• Ensure data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures are maintained and regularly tested.
• Maintain IT documentation, system records, user access logs, and equipment inventories.
• Liaise with external IT vendors, internet service providers, and technical service partners.
• Identify IT risks and recommend improvements to strengthen security, efficiency, and system reliability.
• Support IT upgrades, infrastructure projects, and maintenance initiatives.
• Respond to critical IT incidents to minimize operational downtime.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma, Degree, or relevant qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 6-8 years' experience in IT support, IT infrastructure, network administration, systems engineering, or a similar senior IT role.
• Previous experience within mining, industrial, manufacturing, or heavy operational environments is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and business IT support.
• Hands-on experience with servers, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, Wi-Fi systems, and endpoint devices.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, email systems, and user access management.
• Experience with IT security tools, endpoint protection, firewall administration, and cybersecurity best practices.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities across hardware, software, networking, and infrastructure environments.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Advantageous

• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certifications, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet, Sophos, Palo Alto, or ITIL.
• Experience supporting mining site offices, remote operational environments, or large-scale industrial operations.
• Experience with cybersecurity risk management, IT governance, and compliance.
• Experience with CCTV, access control, biometric systems, and site communication technologies.
• Experience managing third-party IT vendors and service providers.
• Knowledge of backup solutions, disaster recovery planning, and IT asset management
