Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Accounting Manager based in the United States.

The Accounting Manager will lead the day-to-day accounting operations of a mission-driven professional services organization.

This role owns core accounting processes, including the general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, cash, payroll, and trust accounting.

You will manage monthly and year-end close activities while ensuring financial records are accurate, timely, and well documented.

The position also contributes to financial reporting, budgeting support, audits, tax preparation, internal controls, and process improvements.

As the operational leader for accounting, you will supervise and develop accounting staff while maintaining reliable workflows and controls.

You will work closely with finance leadership and cross-functional teams in a collaborative, fully remote environment.

This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and process ownership.

Accountabilities

    • Lead and manage the organization's day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately, consistently, and on schedule.

    • Maintain the general ledger, prepare and post approved journal entries, complete account reconciliations, and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity.

    • Own the monthly and year-end close processes, including close calendars, accruals, reconciliations, financial schedules, journal entries, and preliminary financial statements.

    • Manage accounts receivable accounting, including client payment applications, credits, write-offs, adjustments, unapplied cash, and related documentation.

    • Oversee accounts payable and expense administration, ensuring invoices and employee reimbursements are properly approved, coded, documented, and processed.

    • Maintain accurate cash and bank accounting records, including bank and credit card reconciliations, cash receipts, deposits, transfers, and outstanding items.

    • Manage or oversee trust/IOLTA accounting, monitoring balances and reconciliations while escalating discrepancies or potential compliance concerns appropriately.

    • Manage payroll accounting activities, including payroll-related reconciliations, general ledger entries, schedules, and supporting documentation.

    • Prepare recurring financial statements, management reports, budget-to-actual reporting, financial schedules, and supporting information for finance leadership.

    • Support tax preparation and external audits by preparing reconciliations, workpapers, schedules, and requested financial information.

    • Execute and monitor accounting policies, internal controls, approval procedures, documentation standards, and segregation-of-duties requirements.

    • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, automation, efficiency, documentation, and financial systems.

    • Serve as the operational lead for accounting systems and support system implementation, testing, training, and process improvement initiatives.

    • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting personnel, establish priorities and deadlines, review work for accuracy, and maintain cross-training and backup coverage.

    • Partner with billing and other internal functions to resolve accounting issues and ensure reliable financial information.

    • Promote accountability, collaboration, responsiveness, confidentiality, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.

    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

      • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including supervisory or team-lead responsibilities.

      • Professional services or law firm accounting experience is strongly preferred.

      • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and financial statement preparation.

      • Experience with law firm billing and trust/IOLTA accounting is strongly preferred.

      • Working knowledge of GAAP and internal accounting controls.

      • Experience with accounting and legal billing platforms such as QuickBooks, Clio, Elite, Aderant, or similar systems.

      • Strong Excel skills and the ability to work accurately with complex financial data.

      • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with sound judgment and the ability to identify when issues require escalation.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

      • Highly organized and able to manage recurring deadlines, multiple priorities, and time-sensitive accounting activities.

      • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, mentor, and develop accounting staff.

      • Strong attention to detail, financial accuracy, accountability, and confidentiality.

      • A process-improvement mindset with the ability to identify control weaknesses, workflow gaps, and opportunities for greater efficiency.

      • High integrity and commitment to ethical standards and responsible handling of sensitive financial information.

      • Benefits

        • Base salary of $120,000-$150,000, depending on factors such as geographic location, experience, expertise, business needs, and market conditions.

        • Annual merit bonus opportunities.

        • 401(k) plan with firm profit-sharing matching.

        • Paid time off and paid holidays.

        • Supportive and collaborative work culture focused on respect, inclusion, professional growth, and work-life balance.

        • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful work supporting the transition toward a sustainable energy future.
