This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Payroll Analyst based in the United States.
This is a remote opportunity supporting accurate, timely, and reliable payroll operations within a fast-growing technology environment.
The role will help manage payroll cycles across multiple states and potentially international locations, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time.
You’ll work closely with Payroll, People, Accounting, and Finance teams to reconcile data, resolve discrepancies, and maintain strong controls.
The position combines hands-on payroll administration with opportunities to improve systems, documentation, and recurring workflows.
You’ll also contribute to tax compliance, year-end reporting, audits, and the ongoing expansion of payroll operations.
AI and automation tools will be leveraged to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
This role is well suited to a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys solving problems and improving how payroll works at scale.
Accountabilities
- Support weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, off-cycle payments, garnishments, and retroactive adjustments.
- Reconcile payroll registers against HRIS, benefits, and other payroll-related data before payroll submission.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies while helping maintain accurate payroll and financial data for month-end reporting.
- Coordinate with People and Accounting teams on employee changes, compensation updates, benefits deductions, and other payroll inputs.
- Assist with multi-state payroll tax withholding setup, registrations, and related compliance activities as operations expand.
- Maintain clear audit trails for payroll process changes, including rate updates and new state or country registrations.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2s, W-2c corrections, and ACA reporting.
- Maintain payroll systems and help ensure accurate data flows between payroll platforms and Accounting.
- Respond to payroll tax notices, unemployment claims, audit requests, and other compliance-related inquiries.
- Maintain accurate payroll SOPs, internal controls, and process documentation while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Use AI and automation tools to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve payroll processes.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant education and experience.
- 2-3 years of professional payroll experience, ideally involving multi-state and/or international payroll operations.
- Working knowledge of core U.S. payroll tax concepts, including FICA and FUTA/SUTA.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including experience with pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Payroll, Accounting, Finance, People, and other functions.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential compensation, payroll, employee, and personal information.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring deadlines while responding effectively to issues and changing priorities.
- Experience with Rippling and/or Deel is an asset.
- Experience with VBA in Excel or Apps Script in Google Sheets is an asset.
- International payroll experience and experience in a high-growth, venture-backed SaaS environment are advantageous.
- Competitive compensation based on role level and geographic location:
- Tier 1: $96,000-$130,000, plus equity and bonus eligibility.
- Tier 2: $86,000-$117,000, plus equity and bonus eligibility.
- Tier 3: $83,000-$112,000, plus equity and bonus eligibility.
