This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Engineer (AI / Full-Stack) based in Canada.
This is a high-autonomy product engineering role for someone who enjoys taking ambiguous customer problems from discovery through production.
You’ll work across the full stack while helping shape an AI-first product built around the future of customer research.
The role combines customer discovery, product thinking, rapid prototyping, engineering, and post-launch validation.
You’ll build with technologies spanning Rails, React, TypeScript, realtime experiences, voice agents, analytics, and LLM-powered capabilities.
AI agents are embedded deeply into the engineering workflow, with strong expectations around judgment, quality, and ownership of shipped work.
You’ll work closely with founders, product, design, customers, and engineers in a remote, async-heavy environment with minimal ceremony.
This is an opportunity to have substantial influence over both the product and the way AI-native software is built.
Accountabilities
- Take ownership of customer problems end to end, from understanding the underlying need and exploring solutions to building, shipping, and validating the resulting product experience.
- Work across the full product stack, including Rails APIs, React and TypeScript interfaces, realtime experiences, video streaming, voice agents, analytics, and AI-powered functionality.
- Engage directly with customers through conversations, support interactions, interview transcripts, and product data to build a deep understanding of their needs and challenges.
- Rapidly prototype potential solutions, test assumptions, and use evidence to determine which approaches are worth developing further.
- Make thoughtful product and UX decisions independently, balancing customer needs, usability, technical quality, and long-term scalability.
- Design and implement maintainable solutions using appropriate technical primitives while minimizing unnecessary bespoke complexity.
- Build, deploy, monitor, and maintain production systems, taking responsibility for their performance and outcomes after launch.
- Use AI agents and coding assistants throughout the development lifecycle, including research, planning, prototyping, implementation, testing, and QA.
- Evaluate AI-generated output critically, break complex work into effective tasks, and remain accountable for the quality and reliability of everything that ships.
- Collaborate closely with founders, Product, Design, and Engineering to influence product direction and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Contribute to a fast-moving engineering culture built around automation, strong documentation, rapid iteration, clear communication, and high individual accountability.
- Progress toward ownership of a significant product surface, becoming deeply knowledgeable about its customers, performance, roadmap, and future direction.
- Approximately 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant ownership of production products or features.
- Strong full-stack engineering capabilities, including expertise in both API/backend development and modern frontend development.
- Professional experience with Rails and TypeScript/React is preferred, although equivalent experience with other technologies can be considered.
- Proven experience building, deploying, and maintaining production systems, including learning from real-world usage after launch.
- Hands-on experience with LLM-powered functionality is highly desirable, particularly experience understanding the operational considerations of running AI features in production.
- Daily experience using AI coding tools or agentic development environments such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar platforms, with strong opinions about effective workflows.
- Strong product sense and demonstrated ability to independently determine what should be built, make sound UX decisions, and explain the reasoning behind them.
- Customer-centric mindset, with a willingness to speak with users, analyze customer feedback, review transcripts, and use product data to guide decisions.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly important in a remote and async-heavy environment.
- Excellent judgment when breaking work into manageable pieces, evaluating AI-generated output, balancing speed with quality, and taking ownership of results.
- High autonomy, resourcefulness, curiosity, and comfort working through ambiguity and shifting priorities.
- Ability to operate effectively in a low-ceremony, high-accountability environment where engineers are expected to unblock themselves.
- Willingness to embrace AI as a core part of the engineering workflow rather than treating it as an occasional productivity tool.
- Competitive compensation of CA$150,000-CA$180,000.
- Equity participation.
- Full-time employment with comprehensive benefits.
- Fully remote work from anywhere in Canada.
- Flexible working arrangements, with the team generally operating around Pacific Time hours.
- 4 weeks of paid time off.
- Annual team offsite, with recent events including San Diego.
- Brand-new MacBook Pro.
- Generous access to AI model and coding-tool credits.
- Freedom to use modern technologies and vendors.
- Opportunity to work directly on cutting-edge AI and agentic product experiences.
- High-trust, high-autonomy remote culture with minimal bureaucracy.
- Strong customer-focused and collaborative team environment.
- Opportunities to shape product strategy, engineering practices, and a growing AI-native organization.
