This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a R&D DevSecOps Engineer based in United States.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building secure, AI-enabled software for mission-critical government and defense environments. You will work across backend development, generative AI, application modernization, and DevSecOps to turn emerging technologies into operational capabilities. The role combines software engineering with the design of secure controls for AI-assisted development and automated software delivery. You will help modernize legacy application portfolios while building reliable, auditable, and compliant engineering workflows. Working closely with software, platform, cybersecurity, and mission teams, you will move R&D concepts toward real-world deployment. Accountabilities:
- Build backend services, APIs, data workflows, and AI-enabled applications using modern software engineering practices.
- Develop model-agnostic coding agents and LLM workflows with human approval, prompt history, auditability, controlled tool access, and appropriate security safeguards.
- Establish automated architecture, UX, cybersecurity, testing, accessibility, and deployment controls through CI/CD pipelines and policy-driven engineering practices.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, API documentation, software bills of materials, and other engineering artifacts.
- Apply AI-assisted analysis to assess application portfolios and support modernization strategies including replatforming, refactoring, retirement, preservation, and API wrapping.
- Integrate human- and AI-generated code into automated quality, functional, security, accessibility, and compliance testing workflows.
- Build hardened AI development environments using approved tools, isolated execution, restricted permissions, secure containers, and virtual machines.
- Develop Platform One-compatible workflows that support approved images, cloud services, and deployment requirements.
- Connect user feedback, behavioral telemetry, logs, metrics, and platform context to AI agents capable of identifying issues and preparing changes for human-reviewed pull requests.
- Develop security automation that identifies vulnerabilities and configuration risks, recommends remediation, and generates supporting compliance evidence.
- Collaborate with software engineering, platform, cybersecurity, and mission stakeholders to transition R&D prototypes into operationally viable solutions.
- Take evolving technical problems from initial concept through implementation, testing, demonstration, and refinement.
- Strong professional software development experience, particularly with Python and backend engineering.
- Experience developing backend services, APIs, integrations, data-driven applications, or similar production software.
- Practical experience with generative AI, LLM applications, coding agents, AI-assisted development, or related AI engineering workflows.
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, cloud-native development, platform engineering, or secure software delivery.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, automated testing, security scanning, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Solid understanding of application architecture, secure coding, code review, debugging, software supply-chain security, and production engineering.
- Ability to work independently and turn ambiguous or evolving technical challenges into working solutions and demonstrable outcomes.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
- Active Secret clearance or higher is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Platform One, Party Bus, Big Bang, Iron Bank, or other Department of Defense software factories is highly valued.
- Familiarity with agentic-development technologies such as OpenCode, Codex, Claude Code, LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or comparable tools is beneficial.
- Experience with technologies such as FastAPI, Prefect, Temporal, PostgreSQL, vector databases, or event-driven architectures is a plus.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, Helm, Terraform, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Argo CD, or comparable cloud and deployment technologies is advantageous.
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, Risk Management Framework (RMF), DISA STIGs, CMMC, continuous authorization practices, or other DoD cybersecurity requirements is preferred.
- Experience with SAST, DAST, SBOM generation, dependency scanning, observability, automated remediation, or related security automation is valuable.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems or developing software for classified, disconnected, or otherwise constrained environments is beneficial.
- Background supporting defense, command and control, intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance, mission planning, autonomy, or other national security applications is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, cybersecurity teams, mission users, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable contributing to technical demonstrations, R&D events, stakeholder discussions, and customer-facing engineering engagements.
