Retention Strategist for Marketing Agency

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Retention Strategist for Marketing Agency based in the United States.

This is a hands-on retention and lifecycle marketing role focused on helping DTC and ecommerce brands grow through high-performing customer engagement strategies.

You’ll manage client relationships while serving as a trusted point of contact for retention, email, and lifecycle marketing initiatives.

The role combines strategic thinking with technical execution, requiring strong practical expertise in Klaviyo and familiarity with Shopify.

You’ll troubleshoot client challenges, provide technical guidance, and turn retention strategies into measurable campaign results.

Working within a collaborative pod-based structure, you’ll partner with specialists to deliver against monthly performance targets.

The environment is fast-paced, international, and highly performance-oriented, with significant client-facing responsibility.

Accountabilities:

• Manage client relationships and act as the primary point of contact, ensuring clear communication, responsiveness, and strong ongoing partnerships.
• Execute retention and lifecycle marketing strategies across email and related customer engagement channels for DTC and ecommerce brands.
• Apply hands-on Klaviyo expertise to build, manage, optimize, and troubleshoot retention marketing initiatives.
• Work with Shopify-based ecommerce environments and understand how platform data and customer behavior can inform retention strategies.
• Troubleshoot client issues, identify root causes, and provide practical technical guidance and solutions.
• Collaborate within a pod-based team structure, coordinating with other specialists to deliver campaigns and achieve monthly performance targets.
• Monitor campaign and client performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and take proactive action to strengthen retention outcomes.
• Maintain a client-focused approach while balancing strategic priorities with hands-on execution and technical delivery.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Klaviyo is essential, with the technical ability to work directly within the platform rather than providing strategy alone.
• Professional experience in retention marketing, lifecycle marketing, email marketing, or a closely related ecommerce discipline.
• Familiarity with Shopify and the broader DTC/ecommerce ecosystem.
• Demonstrated ability to execute marketing strategies directly, troubleshoot issues, and become productive quickly in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong technical proficiency and practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate challenges and recommend effective solutions.
• Excellent English communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients; an accent is fully acceptable.
• Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills, with confidence serving as a primary client-facing contact.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, pod-based team and consistently deliver against performance objectives.
• Strong availability for US time-zone overlap is required.
