Jobgether is an AI-powered job platform focused on remote and flexible work. It matches candidates with relevant roles using skills and preference-based algorithms, and also offers career coaching and job-search guidance.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior DevSecOps & Platform Engineering Lead based in the United States.

This is a senior player-coach opportunity leading DevSecOps and platform engineering for a major federal modernization program.

You’ll shape the engineering system behind a 24/7 platform spanning legacy and modern cloud-based technologies.

The role combines hands-on architecture, CI/CD automation, infrastructure as code, security engineering, observability, and production reliability.

You’ll have meaningful ownership over how software moves from development to production while operating within federal security and compliance requirements.

A major focus is building AI-enabled engineering workflows that reduce manual effort and improve developer productivity and system reliability.

You’ll also lead, mentor, and grow engineers while working directly with federal stakeholders and technical decision-makers.

This is an opportunity to deliver measurable improvements to systems supporting a mission with significant public impact.

Accountabilities

    • Lead the planning, architecture, implementation, and continuous improvement of the DevSecOps and platform engineering ecosystem across multiple applications, technology stacks, and environments.
    • Design and operate CI/CD pipelines that enable fast, reliable movement from code commit through testing and production, minimizing manual intervention.
    • Build and maintain zero-downtime deployment and rollback capabilities with automated production verification.
    • Implement infrastructure and environments as code to automate provisioning, reduce configuration drift, and accelerate environment creation and teardown.
    • Embed security and quality controls directly into engineering workflows, including automated scanning, vulnerability detection, remediation tracking, and authorization evidence generation.
    • Support federal security requirements, including vulnerability remediation timelines, Authority to Operate activities, Zero Trust alignment, and applicable controls and tooling.
    • Develop comprehensive observability across infrastructure, applications, interfaces, batch processes, and end-to-end business transactions, enabling rapid detection, diagnosis, and resolution of incidents.
    • Own production reliability activities, including incident and problem management, root-cause analysis, capacity and performance management, disaster recovery, and reduction of change-related incidents.
    • Support the transition from legacy systems to modern platforms while maintaining stability, security, authorization, and reliable data integration during the dual-stack period.
    • Establish engineering metrics covering build times, deployment frequency, escaped defects, engineering toil, and other indicators of platform effectiveness, using the data to drive continuous improvement.
    • Translate business and customer needs into technical solutions, delivery plans, and measurable engineering outcomes.
    • Lead the adoption of AI-enabled engineering workflows for infrastructure development, scripting, pipeline diagnostics, testing, log analysis, documentation, vulnerability analysis, developer self-service, and automated remediation.
    • Apply sound human judgment when using AI, ensuring generated outputs meet security, privacy, quality, and federal authorization requirements.
    • Lead, mentor, hire, and develop engineers while establishing technical standards and creating a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and high-quality execution.
    • Represent platform engineering in cross-functional and customer discussions, clearly communicating technical decisions, risks, trade-offs, progress, and recommendations.
    • Work directly with federal stakeholders and decision-makers, respectfully challenging technical direction when appropriate and supporting recommendations with evidence.
    • Identify ambiguous problems, make informed decisions, document the rationale, and remain accountable for outcomes.
    • Requirements

      • Deep hands-on experience in DevSecOps and platform engineering, including production CI/CD, infrastructure as code, deployment automation, and engineering across multiple technology stacks.
      • Demonstrated experience operating production systems where availability, incident response, reliability, and root-cause analysis are critical.
      • Experience engineering within a regulated federal environment, with an understanding of Authority to Operate processes, federal security controls, vulnerability remediation SLAs, and required government tooling.
      • Strong understanding of security as an engineering discipline, with experience integrating security controls, automated scanning, compliance evidence, and remediation into development and delivery workflows.
      • Demonstrated practical use of AI-assisted engineering tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or comparable technologies, as part of everyday engineering workflows.
      • Ability to identify appropriate opportunities for AI and automation while understanding security, data, privacy, and authorization boundaries in federal environments.
      • Proven technical leadership experience, including direct leadership, mentoring, coaching, architecture ownership, code review, and setting engineering standards.
      • Strong ability to explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders, customers, and senior decision-makers.
      • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues, identify systemic causes, and make decisions when requirements are incomplete.
      • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills, combined with the confidence to challenge technical decisions constructively.
      • Salesforce platform or Copado pipeline experience is helpful but not required; strong platform engineers should be able to learn the application-specific components quickly.
      • Experience with government cloud environments, Splunk, enterprise monitoring integrations, authorization packages, POA&M management, or Zero Trust initiatives is advantageous.
      • Experience with legacy-system decommissioning or dual-stack modernization programs is a plus.
      • Mortgage or housing finance experience is not required.
      • A degree is not required; demonstrated technical capability and evidence of impact are prioritized over formal credentials or specific year counts.
      • Must be based in the United States and able to obtain and maintain a required federal Public Trust clearance; a Secret clearance is not required.
      • Must be comfortable working as a hands-on player-coach, balancing people leadership with architecture, engineering, production support, and technical decision-making.
      • Benefits

        • Base salary: $180,000-$210,000 USD annually, based on experience and demonstrated capability.
        • Full-time W-2 employment with a permanent, fully remote U.S.-based work arrangement.
        • 100% employer-paid medical insurance.
        • Opportunity to work on a high-impact federal modernization program with measurable reliability, security, and delivery outcomes.
        • Direct access to federal customers and decision-makers, with meaningful influence over technical strategy and engineering standards.
        • Opportunity to establish and evolve DevSecOps and platform engineering practices rather than simply maintain an inherited environment.
        • AI-focused professional development, with investment in ongoing AI education and engineering capability building.
        • Hands-on exposure to modern cloud platforms, automation, observability, security engineering, legacy modernization, and AI-enabled workflows.
        • Mission-driven work supporting technology that enables a federal home loan benefit serving people who have served the country.
