This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer I - Platform Enablement based in Canada.
This role sits on a platform and technical enablement team responsible for critical systems used across the organization.
You’ll build and evolve shared infrastructure spanning approval workflows, permissions, authentication, and notifications.
Your work will have broad technical impact, with platform services supporting multiple product and engineering teams.
You’ll tackle complex architectural challenges involving scalability, data integrity, state management, and backward compatibility.
The role offers significant ownership, requiring you to turn ambiguous problems into practical technical plans and safe migration strategies.
You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and subject-matter experts in a collaborative, Agile environment.
It’s an opportunity to raise engineering standards while building reliable, secure infrastructure that enables teams to move faster.
Accountabilities
- Own and evolve cross-functional platform systems covering approval workflows, permissions, authentication, and notifications, with strong attention to architecture, data integrity, scalability, and backward compatibility.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject-matter experts across teams that consume shared platform services to develop elegant, reliable solutions to customer and business problems.
- Lead complex and ambiguous initiatives by breaking them into actionable technical tasks and developing migration strategies that minimize disruption to dependent systems.
- Develop performant, scalable, and secure backend applications and APIs using Ruby on Rails.
- Design, maintain, and optimize data models and SQL queries, primarily using PostgreSQL.
- Participate actively in code reviews, including reviewing changes from other teams that affect platform-owned systems.
- Mentor fellow engineers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to raising engineering quality and standards.
- Continuously improve engineering tools, development processes, and technical best practices.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, investigate production incidents, and collaborate with teammates to restore services quickly and reliably.
- Balance roadmap delivery with the broader responsibility of enabling and unblocking teams that depend on shared infrastructure.
- Strong experience as a full-stack software engineer building production web applications and APIs, ideally with Ruby on Rails.
- Demonstrated architectural judgment and the ability to evaluate tradeoffs, choose appropriate abstractions, and understand the risks associated with modifying shared infrastructure.
- A strong ownership mindset, with the ability to work independently, solve problems proactively, and drive ambiguous initiatives forward with limited oversight.
- Previous experience working on platform, infrastructure, or technical enablement teams where internal or external product teams consume the systems you build.
- Experience balancing platform roadmap priorities with the needs of dependent engineering teams is highly valuable.
- Familiarity with approval workflows, role-based access control (RBAC), identity and authentication systems, Auth0, or session management within a multi-tenant SaaS environment is a plus.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to align technical architecture and implementation decisions with broader business goals.
- Comfortable working in two-week Agile/Scrum-style development cycles.
- Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write, analyze, and optimize queries; PostgreSQL experience is preferred.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and an interest in developing AI-enabled agents or MCP servers.
- Strong customer focus, attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality software.
- Experience with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, StimulusJS, Redis, Sidekiq, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes is valuable.
- Competitive base salary for Canada of CA$156,500-CA$215,000, depending on geographic zone and other compensation factors.

- Learning and professional development opportunities.
- Up to $50 USD / $67.50 CAD toward internet or cell phone services.
- Opportunity to work on high-impact platform infrastructure with broad organizational reach.
