This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Designer, Rapid Prototyping based in United States.
This role sits at the intersection of product design, front-end engineering, rapid prototyping, and AI-assisted product development.
You will help transform early ideas, user needs, partner feedback, and complex workflows into intuitive, high-quality product experiences.
The position combines hands-on design and technical implementation, with a strong emphasis on building functional prototypes directly in the codebase.
You will help shape interaction patterns for AI-powered chat, search, research, automation, knowledge retrieval, and enterprise administration.
The role requires strong judgment around usability, accessibility, security, privacy, maintainability, and responsible AI experiences.
You will work closely with product, engineering, design, and enterprise-facing teams in a highly distributed and collaborative environment.
This is an opportunity for a senior individual contributor to influence product direction, establish reusable patterns, and help move an emerging AI product toward enterprise readiness.
Accountabilities:
- Build functional prototypes and product experiments directly in the application codebase, rapidly translating concepts into interactive experiences that can be tested and evaluated.
- Translate ambiguous product ideas, user workflows, partner feedback, and enterprise requirements into clear, intuitive, and usable product experiences.
- Define interaction patterns for AI-powered experiences, including chat, search, research, workflow automation, knowledge retrieval, and enterprise administration.
- Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to accelerate prototyping and implementation while maintaining high standards for quality, usability, security, accessibility, and maintainability.
- Partner closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and enterprise-facing teams to explore ideas, validate concepts, and refine product direction.
- Contribute production-quality front-end code when appropriate, bridging design intent and technical implementation.
- Evaluate prototypes and determine when an experiment should be discarded, refined, generalized, or developed into a production-ready experience.
- Improve the overall usability, accessibility, consistency, and polish of product interfaces and workflows.
- Develop reusable components, interaction patterns, and design-system elements that provide leverage and improve the broader product team's ability to move quickly.
- Bring a user-centered perspective to technical and product discussions, particularly around AI behavior, transparency, permissions, user control, trust, and workflow clarity.
- Incorporate enterprise considerations such as sensitive data, administrative visibility, auditability, security expectations, and user permissions into product experiences.
- Help foster a product culture centered on experimentation, speed, clarity, maintainability, responsible AI use, and thoughtful user experience.
- Provide technical and product leadership through mentoring, cross-functional coordination, project ownership, reusable patterns, and influence beyond individual deliverables.
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience in design engineering, front-end engineering, UX engineering, product design with strong technical implementation experience, or a closely related field, with demonstrated leadership and impact beyond individual deliverables.
- Strong front-end engineering capabilities, including modern JavaScript or TypeScript, component-based frameworks, and experience building prototypes or production features directly within an application codebase.
- Strong product and interaction design judgment across usability, accessibility, information architecture, workflow design, and interface polish.
- Demonstrated experience designing, prototyping, or building AI-enabled product experiences such as chat, search, research tools, agents, automation, knowledge interfaces, or workflow products.
- Ability to translate ambiguous concepts into usable workflows, prototypes, and shipped experiences while balancing speed, quality, maintainability, learning, and product risk.
- Practical understanding of AI, privacy, security, and regulatory considerations that influence product experiences, including transparency, permissions, user control, data handling, and trust.
- Familiarity with responsible AI, privacy, or security frameworks such as the EU AI Act, Cyber Resilience Act, HIPAA, or comparable requirements is valuable.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience partnering closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical or product leadership through mentoring, project ownership, cross-functional influence, or the creation of reusable systems and patterns.
- Portfolio, case studies, shipped products, or other examples demonstrating design-to-code execution, interactive prototyping, or meaningful product experience improvements.
- Experience with enterprise software, developer tools, productivity platforms, collaboration products, self-hosted software, or other technical user workflows is a plus.
- Experience contributing to design systems, component libraries, reusable front-end architecture, or shared product interaction patterns is beneficial.
- Familiarity with user research, usability testing, product discovery, feature instrumentation, or rapid experimentation methods is a plus.
- Experience working within open-source or highly collaborative engineering environments is advantageous.
- Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and disciplines.
- Base salary benchmarked to local markets, with the provided compensation range of $155,000-$175,000 CAD for Canada; title, level, and compensation may vary based on qualifications and experience.
