This is a dual-impact opportunity supporting a fast-paced Agile development program within a secure AWS cloud environment. You will combine technical writing expertise with configuration and change management responsibilities to strengthen documentation, traceability, compliance, and technical excellence. The role works closely with engineering, DevOps, and program management teams to document evolving cloud-based solutions and manage configuration throughout the development lifecycle. You will contribute to government-facing processes, including Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation and oversight reviews. Your work will help ensure systems remain accurately documented, controlled, compliant, and ready to support mission-critical objectives. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working across technical disciplines in a dynamic environment.
Accountabilities:
- Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive technical documentation, including administration and installation guides, API references, system architecture diagrams, and other technical artifacts.
- Content Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional engineering and technical teams to gather inputs, validate information, and ensure documentation accurately reflects system capabilities.
- Documentation Maintenance: Keep technical documentation current and aligned with system changes, releases, deployments, and evolving technical requirements.
- Security & Compliance Documentation: Create and maintain security and compliance documentation required to support Authority to Operate (ATO) activities within a government program.
- Configuration Management: Establish and maintain Configuration Management (CM) policies, procedures, and Configuration Management Plans (CMPs) in alignment with applicable government and industry standards, including IEEE, ISO, MIL-STD-973, and EIA-649.
- Configuration Identification: Define configuration identification schemes, naming conventions, and processes for Configuration Items (CIs) to ensure consistency and traceability.
- Configuration Audits: Conduct CI audits, reviews, and verification activities to confirm configuration accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
- Baselines: Manage functional, allocated, and product baselines throughout the system development lifecycle.
- Release & Change Management: Coordinate release planning and deployment activities while supporting change control processes and government oversight reviews.
- Agile Integration: Ensure configuration management practices integrate effectively with SAFe and Agile methodologies within scaled development environments.
- AWS Cloud Support: Use AWS tools and services to document and manage cloud infrastructure while aligning documentation and configuration practices with AWS best practices and compliance requirements.
- Security Clearance: Active Secret Clearance is required.
- Configuration Management Experience: 3+ years of experience in configuration management for complex technical systems, including experience managing baselines and change control.
- Technical Writing Experience: 3+ years of technical writing experience, supported by a portfolio of published technical documentation.
- DevOps Tools: Hands-on experience with DevOps tools and workflows, including GitLab.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Relevant Training: Certification or formal training related to technical writing, configuration management, cloud technologies, or a related discipline.
- Government & Regulated Environments: Experience supporting government programs or regulated environments is preferred, along with familiarity with ATO processes and federal compliance frameworks.
- AWS Knowledge: Familiarity with AWS cloud architecture and infrastructure documentation is preferred.
- Collaboration: Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, DevOps, and program management teams.
- Agile Environment: Ability to thrive in fast-paced Agile environments where priorities, requirements, and technical solutions may evolve quickly.
- Professional Approach: Detail-oriented, organized, adaptable, and capable of balancing documentation quality, configuration accuracy, compliance requirements, and delivery timelines.
- Salary: $75,200-$158,100 annually. The final salary may vary based on geographic location, applicable federal contract labor categories and wage rates, prior experience, skills, education, and certifications.
- Remote Work: Fully remote opportunity available from any U.S. state, with Scott AFB, Illinois also listed as a work location.
