This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a UX/UI Lead based in the United States.
As UX/UI Lead, you will own the end-to-end design of a high-impact subscription and ecommerce experience serving thousands of customers.
You will shape intuitive journeys across acquisition, checkout, account management, billing, retention, and subscription lifecycle experiences.
Working closely with Product, Engineering, Creative, Brand, and Lifecycle teams, you will turn customer needs and business goals into thoughtful digital experiences.
You will set a high bar for UX/UI craft, maintain scalable design systems, and champion accessibility and mobile-first design practices.
The role combines hands-on design, research, experimentation, project leadership, and external contractor direction.
You will use customer insights, behavioral data, usability testing, and A/B testing to continuously improve conversion, retention, and satisfaction.
As an individual contributor in a fast-moving environment, you will have significant ownership and influence over the evolution of the digital product experience.
Accountabilities:
- Own UX/UI design across the subscriber journey, including signup, plan selection, account management, billing, payment, pause, skip, swap, cancellation, win-back, and lifecycle transitions.
- Apply best practices in subscription commerce, including dunning, save flows, flexible cadence, bundling, upselling, cross-selling, and retention-focused experiences.
- Design wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity interfaces while identifying and resolving friction throughout the conversion funnel.
- Own Figma file organization and design-system integrity, including components, tokens, documentation, naming conventions, and reusable UI patterns.
- Develop and maintain scalable design systems and style guides across mobile and web using a mobile-first approach.
- Establish and promote UX/UI best practices, accessibility standards, and effective design workflows across the product organization.
- Plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including usability testing, subscriber interviews, behavioral analysis, and funnel analysis.
- Use customer feedback, competitor research, experimentation, and A/B testing to continuously improve usability, conversion, retention, and satisfaction.
- Partner closely with Creative and Brand teams to translate visual identity and brand direction into consistent digital experiences.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers, and Engineers to validate feasibility, manage trade-offs, and ensure high-fidelity implementation.
- Design cohesive experiences across web, email, and SMS that support retention, reactivation, and customer engagement throughout the subscription lifecycle.
- Work with Product Marketing and commercial stakeholders to ensure the digital experience supports go-to-market priorities and business objectives.
- Lead projects through the UX/UI phase by defining deliverables, timelines, dependencies, MVP scope, and design decisions.
- Direct and mentor external UX/UI contractors by providing clear briefs, feedback, guidance, and quality oversight.
- Stay current with emerging design practices, technologies, and trends while continuously looking for opportunities to reduce customer friction.
- Extensive experience in UX/UI design, with significant experience designing subscription, membership, or recurring-revenue products; DTC subscription commerce experience is strongly preferred.
- Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership across research, information architecture, interaction design, visual/UI design, and post-launch iteration.
- Proven experience designing subscription-specific journeys involving plan management, billing, retention, save flows, churn reduction, and lifecycle engagement.
- Strong experience collaborating with Creative, Brand, Engineering, Product, Lifecycle, and CRM teams.
- Expert-level Figma skills and proven experience creating and maintaining clean, scalable design systems.
- Experience managing, mentoring, or directing designers and/or external contractors, including providing actionable feedback and quality oversight.
- Strong understanding of WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly explain and defend design decisions to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of ecommerce, customer journeys, conversion optimization, and current UX/UI best practices.
- Strong skills in typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and color theory.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of design quality.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities and workflows can evolve quickly.
- Experience in health, wellness, baby/parenting, consumer packaged goods, or ecommerce is a plus.
- Familiarity with subscription and billing platforms such as Recharge or Stripe Billing is a plus.
- Experience with lifecycle and CRM platforms such as Klaviyo is a plus.
- Front-end knowledge including HTML, JavaScript, or CSS is a plus.
- Passion for the product mission and a proactive approach to solving problems and moving projects forward.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, experimenting, and staying ahead of emerging design trends.
- Comfortable working in an early-stage environment where responsibilities may evolve and cross-functional contribution is highly valued.
- Competitive salary based on geographic location:
- Group A - $148,525-$175,000: San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle, New York City
- Group B - $133,670-$157,500: Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, Denver, Boston, Washington DC, San Diego, Philadelphia, Portland, Sacramento
- Group C - $126,245-$148,750: All other U.S. cities
