The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part Time Student Technical Product Engineering for John Deere located at John Deere JDTIC Spray Lab in Ames, IA but may include project work in Ankeny, IA you will:
- Effectively communicate and work in a team environment
- Propose or evaluate solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance.
- Test design concepts in lab tests or in field environments on prototype equipment
- Apply technical knowledge to identify and resolve design weaknesses
- Validate offboard data to ensure data quality
This position is not available to students on immigration visas
What Skills You Need
- Ideally, you will be pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering; other engineering fields may apply.
- Must be registered as a full-time student at a local US-accredited university/college
- Graduation date of May 2028 or later
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
- Available to work 10-20 hours/week during the academic year
- Available to work 30-40 hours/week during the summer semester
- Must be able to commute to the work location in Ames, IA on a daily basis year-round
- Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior standing students are preferred, Senior standing and those pursuing Advanced degrees may apply.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Knowledge or work experience in production agriculture (specifically tillage, planters, and sprayers).
- Experience in product engineering (product design, product testing, software testing).
- Create design concepts in 3D CAD modeling applications (Creo, ProE).
- Develop dynamic performance specifications using simulation. (MATLAB, Simscape, Simulink)
- Programming experience (MATLAB, C++, Python, Visual Basic, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
