Its openings include graduate engineers across structural, process, subsea and safety disciplines, piping and electrical designers, project controllers and senior engineering contractors.

About the job:

Kent is looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer with heat exchanger experience to join our engineering team in our Sarnia, Ontario, Edmonton, or Alberta office. The successful candidate will support the specification, selection, design review, and procurement of heat exchangers and other static mechanical equipment for industrial projects. Working closely with senior engineers, multidisciplinary teams, clients, and equipment suppliers, you will contribute to safe, reliable, and practical engineering solutions from initial design through construction and commissioning.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Execute assigned mechanical engineering activities, ensuring deliverables meet project scope, technical requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, mechanical datasheets, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and procurement recommendations for review.
  • Support the selection and technical evaluation of shell-and-tube heat exchangers, air-cooled heat exchangers, plate heat exchangers, and related equipment.
  • Review vendor drawings, mechanical calculations, thermal performance information, fabrication documentation, inspection and test plans, and final equipment records.
  • Coordinate with process engineers to confirm heat duties, operating and design conditions, allowable pressure drops, fouling allowances, and equipment performance requirements.
  • Evaluate heat exchanger mechanical design features, including materials, corrosion allowances, tube bundles, tubesheets, thermal expansion provisions, nozzle loads, and supports.
  • Consider inspection access, tube bundle removal, cleaning methods, lifting requirements, and maintenance clearances during equipment reviews.
  • Apply relevant industry codes, standards, client specifications, and project requirements under appropriate technical supervision.
  • Coordinate equipment interfaces with process, piping, materials, civil, structural, instrumentation, and electrical engineering disciplines.
  • Support pressure equipment registration activities and associated technical documentation, as applicable to the project.
  • Prepare technical queries, assess supplier deviations, and recommend solutions for review by the responsible senior engineer.
  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments, addressing equipment safety, constructability, operability, and maintainability.
  • Support assessments of existing heat exchangers for replacement, modification, changes in service, or performance improvement.
  • Provide technical support during equipment fabrication, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Assist with engineering activities for pressure vessels, tanks, and other static equipment as required.
  • Communicate task progress, technical concerns, and potential schedule impacts to the lead engineer and project team.
  • Maintain complete engineering records and follow project quality assurance and document control procedures.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization.
