Position Summary

The Calibration Engineering Technician (CET) is the single point of accountability for the Huntington Site Calibration Management System. This role retains total ownership of the calibration schedule, master inventory, and compliance tracking for all gages and measurement equipment across Quality, Maintenance, HSE, Engineering, and Manufacturing. While the physical calibration of certain equipment will continue to be performed by designated departmental personnel (such as Maintenance) or external vendors, the CET provides centralized oversight. The primary mandate of this position is to ensure that all site-wide calibration activities are properly scheduled, executed on time, and documented in strict compliance with internal standards, quality systems, and customer requirements, regardless of who performs the actual calibration.

Essential Functions

  • Calibration System Ownership and Administration
    • Own and administer the Huntington Site Calibration Management System (GageTrak or equivalent), ensuring overall system effectiveness and compliance
    • Maintain the master inventory of all gages and calibration-controlled equipment
    • Ensure no department (Quality, Maintenance, HSE, Engineering, or Manufacturing) utilizes measurement or test equipment that has not been identified, classified, and entered into the central system prior to use
    • Establish and maintain calibration frequencies based on risk, usage, manufacturer recommendations, and customer requirements
    • Issue recall notifications and track activities to ensure all devices maintain a valid calibration status
    • Develop, maintain, and improve calibration procedures, standards, and work instructions
  • Coordination and Execution
    • Manage the calibration schedule for all equipment owned by Quality, Maintenance, HSE, Engineering, and Manufacturing
    • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., Maintenance) and approved external service providers who perform the physical calibrations
    • Ensure delegated tasks are completed on time and properly recorded
    • Monitor completion statuses, aggressively follow up on overdue activities across all departments, and escalate compliance risks to leadership
    • Perform internal calibrations and verification activities only when appropriately trained, authorized, and equipped
    • Maintain measurement standards used by the Quality Department
    • Diagnose measurement-related equipment issues and assist with the implementation of new measurement technologies
  • Measurement System and Compliance Support
    • Manage and document Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) conditions, working cross-functionally to assess potential product impact and support containment or corrective actions
    • Support MSA activities, including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies
    • Maintain audit-ready records and act as the subject matter expert during customer, corporate, internal, and certification audits
    • Lead responses to calibration-related audit findings
    • Ensure calibration labels, identification systems, and supporting documentation are strictly maintained across the entire facility
  • Vendor Management and Continuous Improvement
    • Coordinate equipment shipments and returns for outside calibration
    • Review calibration certificates for compliance and traceability
    • Monitor and maintain approved vendor information, evaluating supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost
    • Drive initiatives to improve inventory accuracy, reduce overdue calibrations, mitigate compliance risks, and support the digitalization and automation of calibration activities

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of calibration and measurement system principles
  • Working knowledge of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and record-control skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to hold multiple departments accountable to deadlines
  • Experience administering GageTrak
  • Familiarity with metrology laboratory environments
  • Experience with SAP and Power BI reporting
  • Project management experience
  • Background in supporting Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Required Experience and Education

  • Previous experience as a Quality A Technician, Quality Engineering Technician, or equivalent manufacturing quality role
  • Minimum two years of experience in manufacturing, quality, calibration, metrology, or a related field
  • ASQ Certification
    • Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or ability to obtain within 12 months
    • Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) recommended
  • Preferred
    • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical field
    • Proven experience managing a facility-wide calibration program
    • Metrology Technician Certification
    • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification or higher

Key Performance Indicators

  • On-Time Calibration Completion Rate
  • Overdue Calibration Count
  • Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) Trend and Closure Rate
