The Role

As a Mainframe DB2 for zOS Database Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients - which means some of the biggest in the world.

There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• 10+ Years of experience in Mainframe DB2 Database Administration.

• DB2 z/OS Expertise: Solid hands-on experience as a Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator in a z/OS environment.

• Performance Tuning: Proficient in SQL performance tuning, access path analysis, and using diagnostic tools (e.g., EXPLAIN, PLAN_TABLE).

• Monitoring & Utilities: Experience with DB2 utilities (REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD/UNLOAD, RECOVER) and monitoring tools (e.g., Omegamon, Mainview).

• Parallel Sysplex: Familiarity with Data Sharing architecture, Sysplex, and Coupling Facility environments.

• Scripting Skills: Skilled in writing and interpreting JCL, REXX, and DB2 automation scripts.

• Incident Communication: Strong composure and communication skills when interfacing with technical teams and clients during critical incident calls.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

• Optimize Systems: Configure, install, maintain, and fine-tune mainframe DB2 database management systems on z/OS for peak performance.

• Performance & Tuning: Conduct SQL performance tuning, access path analysis, and buffer pool optimization using industry-standard diagnostics.

• Utility & Backup Management: Oversee DB2 utility management (REORG, RUNSTATS, LOAD, UNLOAD) and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery plans.

• Capacity & Growth: Perform capacity planning, system monitoring, and growth projections to ensure long-term database scalability.
