Head of Agency Lending Operations, Managing Director

Who are we looking for

We are looking for an industry leader with hands-on experience in Agency Lending Operations within a Markets business. You understand what great looks like in a global operations organization and bring deep knowledge of the functions that support Agency Lending across the trade lifecycle. You combine strong operational expertise with executive presence, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, and a proven ability to influence, lead through change, and navigate complex challenges.

This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a global team of approximately 150 professionals across India, Hong Kong, London, and Boston, providing operational support for Agency Lending activities, including settlement, reconciliations, and collateral management. You will lead the organization through the complexity of a large-scale global operation, ensuring accurate trade processing, effective collateralization, robust risk management, regulatory compliance, and seamless day-to-day execution.

You will work closely with business, technology, risk, and control partners to drive innovation across processes and systems, enhancing efficiency, scalability, and risk management while ensuring operational solutions remain aligned with State Street's strategic objectives, industry best practices, and evolving market needs.

A significant part of your mandate will be the transformation of the function. You will have the opportunity to help shape the future operating model, modernize the technology infrastructure, and drive initiatives that reduce risk, improve efficiency, and accelerate speed to market. Success in this role will require balancing long-term transformation with an unwavering focus on day-to-day execution and client service.

The role can be based in Mumbai, Bangalore, or Hyderabad and reports directly to the SVP, Global Head of Financing and Portfolio Solutions Operations.

What you will be responsible for

As Head of Agency Lending Operations, Managing Director, you will:

• Lead a global organization of 150+ professionals, driving consistent service delivery, robust governance and controls, operational resilience, and a culture of excellence across regions while setting the strategic direction for one of the industry's leading Agency Lending operations teams.
• Own the end-to-end Agency Lending operating platform, overseeing trade capture, confirmations, settlement, clearing, reconciliation, cash movements, data management, and lifecycle events across loan and return activity, as well as bilateral and triparty transactions.
• Provide strategic leadership across the Agency Lending collateral ecosystem, overseeing margin management, bilateral and triparty collateralization, dispute resolution, collateral sufficiency monitoring, and optimization throughout the lending lifecycle, including collateral impacts arising from corporate actions.
• Shape the future of Agency Lending Operations by leading a significant transformation and modernization agenda. Partnering closely with Technology, Business, and Risk teams, you will help deliver scalable, automated future-state capabilities while optimizing the operating model and cost base to support growth, efficiency, and global consistency.
• Champion a best-in-class risk and control environment, proactively identifying and mitigating operational, settlement, and counterparty risks, strengthening controls and operational resilience, and ensuring timely and effective management of incidents, remediation activities, and escalations.
• Ensure the organization remains audit-ready and regulatory compliant, maintaining adherence to applicable regulations, internal policies, and industry standards while overseeing regulatory reporting, data governance, model risk requirements, and readiness for an evolving regulatory landscape.
• Serve as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders and key market participants, leading relationships across Front Office, Custody, Risk/ERM, Compliance, Technology, counterparties, borrowers, custodians, clearing agents, and strategic vendors. You will act as a senior escalation point, helping ensure exceptional service delivery, strong cyber-risk oversight, and swift resolution of complex operational issues.
• Build and inspire a high-performing global leadership team, attracting, developing, and retaining exceptional talent while strengthening succession planning, leadership depth, and an inclusive culture that enables individuals and teams to perform at their best.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or related field is preferred. A postgraduate/professional qualification is advantageous
• 20+ years of experience in financial services operations, with focus on Agency Lending
• Strong understanding of Agency Lending products and processes (e.g., trade lifecycle management/settlement/collateral, triparty agents, vendors)
• Proven track record of strengthening risk and control environments and managing regulatory and operational risk.
• Experience leading transformation initiatives, including process optimization, automation, and technology modernization.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships across business, operations, technology, and corporate functions.
• Strategic thinker with a proven change management mindset and experience driving large-scale initiatives.
