Senior Revenue Accountant

About the Job:

As a Senior Revenue Accountant at LaunchDarkly, you will play a critical role in ensuring that revenue is recognized accurately and in accordance with US GAAP and ASC 606, while leaning heavily into AI-driven automation to enhance process efficiency and scalability. You will own revenue-related tasks for month end close procedures and partner closely with cross functional teams (like Sales, Deal Desk, Legal) to review customer contracts and non-standard terms. You will also assist with external audits, preparing ad hoc analyses, and be a key point of contact for all revenue recognition activities. This role is ideal for a revenue accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where you can have a direct impact.

Responsibilities:

• Support the monthly revenue close process, including preparation of revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, to ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition
• Perform ASC 606 contract reviews for new and existing customer arrangements and document appropriate revenue recognition conclusions
• Evaluate complex or non-standard contract terms, including usage-based pricing, committed spend, minimum commitments, credits, discounts, contract modifications, renewals, and other commercial arrangements
• Maintain and reconcile revenue schedules across revenue, accounts receivable, deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and customer credits
• Develop and maintain revenue accounting workbooks, rollforwards, and supporting documentation that provide clear audit trails from customer contracts and usage data through the general ledger
• Partner with Sales, Legal, Deal Desk, and Finance on new products, pricing models, contract structures, and commercial terms to identify potential accounting implications
• Support the accounting assessment and operationalization of new products and SKUs, including determining appropriate revenue recognition treatment, sales tax treatment, and ensuring required accounting data is captured
• Support external audits by preparing revenue schedules, contract samples, reconciliations, and responses to auditor inquiries
• Identify opportunities to improve and automate revenue accounting processes, controls, reconciliations, and reporting
• Partner with system administrators and cross-functional teams to improve the integration and data flow among CRM, billing, usage, and ERP systems
• Support development of scalable revenue accounting policies and procedures as the company and its product offerings evolve

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 8+ years of relevant accounting experience, including meaningful experience with SaaS revenue recognition 
• CPA or equivalent is a must
• Experience in public accounting is a must. Big 4 preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606 and experience evaluating customer contracts and revenue arrangements.
• Experience with SaaS, cloud infrastructure, AI, technology, or other consumption-based business models strongly preferred
• Experience working with large datasets and reconciling information across multiple systems
• Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce or another major ERP and CRM systems preferred
• Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment where products, systems, and processes continue to evolve
• Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical accounting requirements into practical guidance for non-accounting stakeholders
