Java Developer

Role overview

In this role, you’ll join the Global HMS team, contributing to application development and ongoing support across the platform. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders to deliver technology and project outcomes to agreed timelines, while taking ownership of production support and ensuring service stability.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver application enhancements and support as part of a global engineering team.
• Partner with the business to plan and execute deliveries, ensuring milestones are met.
• Lead the resolution of critical incidents, driving fixes through to completion within required timeframes.
• Own end-to-end production support activities, including managing support requests, tickets, and ad-hoc queries, and tracking them to resolution.
• Diagnose and resolve application issues to maintain performance, reliability, and usability for system users.
• Create and maintain best-practice guidance, technical documentation, and process artefacts.
• Continuously build capability through training, certifications, and hands-on learning.
• Act as an SME for service functionality, constraints, and operational considerations.
• Identify and escalate risks, issues, dependencies, and assumptions during the design phase of agile delivery.

Required skills and experience

• Core technical skills: Java 21, Spring Boot 3.x, JUnit, microservices, REST APIs, JSON, React JS, PostgreSQL, MQ/Solace
• Working knowledge of: Kubernetes, Redis, application security
• Exposure to observability and DevOps/CI/CD tooling: Grafana, Splunk, Logstash, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Zipkin, Jenkins, Ansible
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams
• Highly responsive, particularly for day-to-day application support
• Self-directed and accountable, able to take ownership and drive tasks to completion
• Customer-focused, able to understand and interpret user needs
• Produces clear, concise, high-quality documentation and deliverables
• Comfortable working in a DevOps model, contributing across streams such as business analysis, testing (including manual testing), and support

Nice to have

• Basic Python, Activiti (workflow engine), JMock/Mockito, shell scripting, Selenium, Serenity
• Experience building or supporting workflow-based applications
