Head of Design

Responsibilities:

• Own the UI/UX design vision and strategy across Loco's mobile and web experiences.
• Lead and mentor the design team, setting a high bar for design quality, UX thinking, and execution.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leadership from the early discovery stage through final implementation.
• Translate complex product requirements into simple, intuitive, and scalable user experiences.
• Drive end-to-end design across user research, information architecture, user flows, wireframes, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design.
• Build and maintain a scalable design system, component library, and design guidelines across the product.
• Work closely with engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible, performant, responsive, and implemented accurately.
• Establish strong design-to-development workflows using tools such as Figma, design tokens, component libraries, and developer handoff systems.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on responsive layouts, accessibility, performance, animations, interactions, and platform-specific UI patterns.
• Use quantitative and qualitative data, experimentation, and user feedback to continuously improve the product experience.
• Drive A/B testing and data-informed design decisions across acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetisation journeys.
• Identify UX friction points through analytics, user research, usability testing, and behavioural data.
• Define and track design KPIs and measure the impact of design decisions on business and user outcomes.
• Stay ahead of emerging trends across gaming, streaming, social, creator platforms, and consumer technology.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in UI/UX or Product Design, with significant experience leading design teams.
• Strong experience building and scaling consumer-facing mobile products.
• Proven experience managing senior designers and establishing design processes and standards.
• Strong command of UX principles, interaction design, visual design, information architecture, and design systems.
• Deep expertise with Figma and modern design workflows.
• Strong understanding of how design systems translate into production-ready components and front-end implementations.
• Ability to work closely with engineers and understand technical constraints around responsive design, APIs, front-end architecture, performance, accessibility, and mobile platforms.
• Strong product sense and ability to balance user needs, business goals, technical feasibility, and speed of execution.
• Experience using product analytics and experimentation to validate design decisions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Good to Have:

• Experience in gaming, live streaming, social media, entertainment, or creator platforms.
• Experience designing products with millions of users and high-frequency engagement.
• Experience with gamification, social mechanics, creator ecosystems, virtual economies, or live experiences.
• Familiarity with tools and technologies such as Storybook, design tokens, React/React Native, HTML/CSS, or similar front-end technologies.
• Experience building a design organisation or design function in a high-growth startup environment.
