The UMI Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing underground maintenance, inspection, and infrastructure projects from initiation through completion. This role manages project schedules, budgets, manpower, equipment, subcontractors, and client relationships while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, contract requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients, field leadership, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of underground maintenance and inspection (UMI) projects, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, manpower forecasts, and resource allocation plans.
  • Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, operators, and field personnel to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential risks, delays, or cost overruns.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and scope requirements.
  • Prepare and submit project reports, forecasts, change orders, RFIs, and client updates.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgeting, cost tracking, billing, forecasting, and profit/loss analysis.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, utility representatives, and regulatory agencies.
  • Lead project meetings and coordinate communication between field operations and management.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Assist with project estimating, bid preparation, and proposal development as required.
  • Review and approve timesheets, equipment utilization reports, and project expenditures.
  • Support workforce planning, staffing decisions, and employee development initiatives.
  • Investigate and resolve project-related issues, disputes, and performance concerns.
  • Participate in project turnover, lessons learned, and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of construction, utility, underground maintenance, inspection, or infrastructure project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Experience managing crews, equipment, subcontractors, and multiple active projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • PMP, CCM, or similar project management certification.
  • Experience in underground utility construction, maintenance, inspection, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and utility industry standards.
  • Experience with estimating and project controls software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk active construction sites and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand, sit, climb, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while on project sites.

This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
