Job Summary

As a Loenbro company, we live by the values that foster integrity, quality craftsmanship, and community. The Regional Senior Project Engineer serves as the primary liaison between the Engineering Service Manager and the regional Project Engineer team across all active jobs. This role is the region's subject matter expert on engineering process, specification management, and streamlining effectiveness across pre-job planning, BIM coordination, and overall engineering performance. The Regional Senior Project Engineer sets and enforces consistent engineering standards across projects, mentors Project Engineers, and represents engineering in cross-functional project leadership discussions. This is a regional, portfolio-level role and does not carry single-project execution responsibility.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Regional Engineering Liaison

Serve as the primary point of contact between the Engineering Service Manager and all Project Engineers assigned to regional projects.

  • Translate Engineering Service Manager direction on process, specification, and standards into project-level execution guidance for Project Engineers.
  • Escalate systemic engineering issues, resource constraints, and cross-project risk from the Project Engineer team to the Engineering Service Manager.
  • Represent the engineering function in regional project leadership and operations review meetings.
  • Serve as the point of technical escalation for Project Engineers before issues are elevated to design engineering or the Engineering Service Manager.

Process Standardization & Specification Management

Own and maintain the region's engineering standard operating procedures, specification templates, and document control standards.

  • Audit Project Engineer deliverables, including RFIs, submittals, and as-builts, across active jobs for consistency with company standards and applicable codes.
  • Identify process gaps or inefficiencies across the Project Engineer team and lead development of corrective standard work.
  • Serve as the region's subject matter expert on interpretation of AISC, AWS, IBC and project-specific specifications, providing rulings Project Engineers can act on without escalation to design engineering.
  • Maintain version control and change management for regional specification templates and standard forms.

Pre-Job Planning Leadership

Lead pre-job planning for new project awards, coordinating scope review, constructability assessment, and engineering resource allocation with the Engineering Service Manager and assigned Project Manager.

  • Develop the engineering execution plan for each new job, including RFI protocols, submittal schedules, and QC hold points, prior to turnover to the assigned Project Engineer.
  • Facilitate lessons-learned reviews at project closeout and incorporate findings into regional pre-job planning standards.
  • Assess engineering staffing needs across the regional portfolio and recommend Project Engineer assignments to the Engineering Service Manager.

Engineering Performance Oversight & Mentorship

Monitor engineering performance metrics across the Project Engineer team, including RFI turnaround, submittal cycle time, and rework rates, and report trends to the Engineering Service Manager.

  • Mentor and develop Project Engineers on technical methods, code interpretation, and company process.
  • Participate in Project Engineer onboarding and individual skills development planning.
  • Provide technical review and quality checks on complex structural and mechanical calculations prepared by Project Engineers before issuance.
  • Provide input to Project Engineer performance evaluations based on technical quality and process adherence.

Quality Control Program Ownership

Support the region's structural and mechanical QC program, including inspection protocols, weld testing standards, and commissioning checklists applied consistently across jobs as needed per project needs.

  • Lead root cause analysis on significant nonconformances and drive corrective and preventive action across the Project Engineer team.
  • Conduct periodic QC audits of active jobs independent of the assigned Project Engineer.
  • Maintain regional QC metrics and report trends and outliers to the Engineering Service Manager.

Procurement & Specification Standards

Support the regional standard specifications for recurring structural steel and specialty component procurement.

  • Review and approve high-value or non-standard vendor submittals escalated by Project Engineers.
  • Support strategic sourcing and vendor qualification efforts in coordination with procurement leadership.

Safety & Compliance Standards

Support development and standardization of site-specific safety plans across regional jobs, with focus on steel erection, crane operations, and mechanical installation hazards.

  • Participate in serious incident investigations and cross-project safety trend analysis.
  • Serve as engineering's representative in regional safety leadership meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience in industrial construction, including demonstrated project engineering leadership across multiple concurrent jobs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AISC, AWS, IBS, and industrial construction specification development.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop less experienced engineering staff.
  • Track record of establishing or improving engineering process and standard work across a multi-project portfolio.
  • Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to represent engineering in cross-functional leadership settings.
  • Experience leading pre-job planning and constructability review processes.
  • Working knowledge of QC program development, including inspection protocol and root cause analysis methods.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and project management/document control software.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Prior experience in a lead, coordinator, or supervisory engineering role within industrial or heavy civil construction preferred.
