Mace is a convenience store brand whose stores in Ireland are run by local operators in towns such as Sligo, Dublin, Limerick and Letterkenny. The stores hire shop assistants, sales assistants, deli assistants and baristas for full-time and part-time shifts. The company is based in Ireland.

Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.

The Head of Platforms & Engineering leads the engineering, analytics, and business intelligence capability that turns enterprise data strategy into reliable, scalable delivery. Reporting to the Global Head of Data, the role is accountable for building and operating trusted data platforms, pipelines, models, and analytics products that support operational decision-making, client services, digital products, automation, and AI. The role combines technical leadership with strong business engagement, establishing common engineering standards, prioritising demand, and building a high-performing, globally distributed delivery capability.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing the design, development, operation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s data platform, data warehouse, integration pipelines, semantic models, reporting, and analytics services.
  • Translating the global data strategy and target architecture into an executable engineering and analytics roadmap, aligned with business priorities and measurable value.
  • Establishing and enforcing engineering standards covering solution design, coding, testing, release management, observability, documentation, resilience, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Creating trusted, reusable data products and common datasets that reduce duplication and support consistent enterprise reporting, client insight, digital services, and AI-ready use cases.
  • Owning the intake, prioritisation, and delivery of engineering, BI, and analytics demand, balancing strategic change, project delivery, and business-as-usual requirements.
  • Partnering with Data Governance, Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Digital Product, IT Operations, and business leaders to embed quality, lineage, access controls, privacy, retention, and regulatory requirements by design.
  • Managing, developing, and organising a high-performing team of data engineers, BI developers, analysts, and delivery partners, using an effective right-shored operating model.
  • Managing strategic suppliers and technology partners, ensuring clear accountability for quality, pace, service performance, knowledge transfer, and value for money.
  • Acting as the senior technical authority for data engineering and analytics, providing clear advice, resolving delivery blockers, and communicating complex topics credibly to senior stakeholders.

You’ll need to have:

  • Significant leadership experience across enterprise data engineering, data platforms, BI, analytics, or related disciplines in a complex, global organisation.
  • Proven delivery of modern cloud-based data platforms, data lakes or warehouses, integration patterns, ETL/ELT pipelines, semantic models, and analytics solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem, including Azure data services, SQL, Power BI, and modern engineering practices. Experience with AI, machine learning, IoT, and Oracle environments is advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience establishing engineering standards, DevSecOps practices, automated testing, monitoring, data quality controls, and reliable production support.
  • Experience managing blended onshore, nearshore, offshore, and supplier teams, with clear accountability for outcomes and service performance.
  • Ability to translate business needs into practical technical solutions, challenge complexity, prioritise investment, and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working with enterprise platforms such as ERP, HR, CRM, finance, and project delivery systems. Construction, consulting, or professional services experience is beneficial.
