Summary:
This position is skilled to setup, adjust and operate lapping and grinding machines and special types of machine tools. Performs diversified machining operations largely on standard work having tolerance and finish specifications requiring a general knowledge of machining practices and techniques.
This position must have the ability to perform the following:
Responsibilities:
- Works from drawings, sketches and specifications in completing various machining operations.
- Performs machine set-ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
- Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
- Completes and maintains all necessary records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms, etc. for each job.
- Makes jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as qualified and assigned.
- Acquires raw material, supplies, tools, etc. when necessary.
- Maintains work area in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion and conforms to all quality procedures and standards.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance of machines according to PM schedule.
- Troubleshoots drawings, machining, tooling, programming, material, etc. and making competent decisions pertaining to job at hand.
- Utilizes Geometric Dimension & Tolerance as called out on print.
- Responsible for providing guidance and training to lower-level machinist
Minimum required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be able to measure parts using micrometers, calipers or other measuring tools
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
- Minimum 5 years of experience
The ideal candidate possesses the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Clear communication, both oral and written
- Organization skills; keep area clean to 5S standards
- Prior shop or mechanical experience desired
- Meets productivity standards by completing work in a timely manner
Mental/Visual/Physical Effort:
- Walks, stands, reaches, and bends frequently. Periodic lifting of moderate to heavy items may be required. Possesses good hand/eye coordination.
Physical Hazards:
- Normal operations require eye protection, steel-toed footwear, and occasionally hand protection.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to normal machine shop environment with periodic noise. Limited disagreeable factors present.
