Maintenance Technician II

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for independently troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex mechanical and electrical systems throughout the manufacturing facility. This position serves as a highly skilled technician capable of diagnosing equipment failures involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, CNC, and automated systems while assisting in mentoring less experienced technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical failures on production equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical issues using multimeters and electrical testing equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Troubleshoot 24VDC, 120VAC, 240VAC, and 480VAC control circuits.
  • Diagnose motors, motor starters, VFDs, overloads, relays, contactors, sensors, and control devices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems including proportional valves, pumps, cylinders, manifolds, regulators, and controls.
  • Maintain CNC machinery and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform precision mechanical repairs including alignment, bearings, gearboxes, couplings, and power transmission systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment by identifying input/output failures and supporting PLC diagnostics (programming experience preferred but not required).
  • Troubleshoot robotic and automated equipment as applicable.
  • Perform advanced preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Install and commission new production equipment.
  • Recommend equipment improvements to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Mentor Maintenance Technician I personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E guidelines, and company safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS software.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree or industrial maintenance certification preferred.
  • 4-7 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proficient with digital multimeters and electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose AC/DC control circuits and industrial power distribution.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic prints, and machine documentation.
  • Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Experience with CNC machinery, automation, conveyors, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills

  • PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar).
  • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) troubleshooting.
  • Servo motor and motion control experience.
  • Welding and fabrication.
  • Predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.).
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and emergency call-ins as required.
