Overview

In addition to our traditional payments’ portfolio, Mastercard is aggressively expanding into new payment flow and leveraging the digital and connected world of people and economies to deliver faster, reliable and more efficient propositions to make payments - send or receive money.

The Cross Border program is part of the wider Disbursement & Remittances business that we are looking to expand at a compounded rate of 50% per year for the next 5 years. We are building solutions to enable payments in an any-to-any format - anyone, anywhere can send or receive money using any channel - money exchanges, banks, digital wallets, cards or fintech apps - providing a seamless and unified experience for both individuals and business to move money.

We are looking for a passionate, innovative and experienced Lead engineer with a proven track record in leading the evolution of software products and their implementation in various markets - comfortable both working hands-on as well as guiding and mentoring a team of engineers and critically always challenging the status quo and pushing and driving the technology roadmap to ensure that the solutions leverage technology to the maximum extent

Role

• Own complex problems having dependency across services and facilitate cross-functional team interactions to drive resolution
• Define, design, and develop procedures and solutions at a service level to meet the business requirements/enhancements
• Drive prioritization decisions and trade-offs in working with product partners
• Identify opportunities and build roadmaps to enhance primary service/function
• Automate and simplify all aspects of software delivery and development by actively evangelizing the need to automate and simplify where needed.
• Drive seamless integration across all connected services to meet end-user expectations
• Drive blameless postmortems culture to identify root causes of incidents and implement learnings
• Introduce new technologies and architecture by following enterprise guidelines
• Advocate for engineering principles outside of current organization/platform
• Provide development and architecture guidance to team members
• Build relationships and effective partnerships across organizations
• Make difficult decisions on behalf of the team if required
• Lead by example with hands-on approaches to demonstrate engineering excellence

About You

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering scalable, resilient, and high-performing enterprise software solutions.
• Proven hands-on experience building and supporting full-stack applications using modern technologies within large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in software engineering principles, object-oriented design, architectural patterns, and industry best practices.
• Advanced experience developing applications with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, PostgreSQL, and test automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, microservices architectures, and modern software development practices.
• Proven experience working within Agile environments and leveraging DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing strategies.
• Deep understanding of the payments ecosystem, with expertise in ISO 20022 Account-to-Account (A2A) payment standards and related transaction processing workflows.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement solutions that address critical non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability, availability, reliability, maintainability, and supportability.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and driving delivery across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering through production support.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Business Operations, Technology Operations, Customer Experience, and Engineering stakeholders.
• Ability to independently engage with product and business partners, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and drive execution with minimal oversight.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Demonstrated leadership, ownership, and accountability when navigating complex challenges, competing priorities, and evolving business requirements.
