A Day in the Life

Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, validates, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.

Supports equipment improvement projects, equipment redesign initiatives, and equipment validation processes to improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and overall performance.

Applies lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to improve equipment availability, reduce scrap, minimize downtime, and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

Uses root cause analysis, waste reduction, standard work, visual management, and process optimization techniques to improve equipment performance, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality.

TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement, equipment validation, equipment redesign, automation support, lean manufacturing, or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, engineering drawings, SolidWorks and AutoCAD files, written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing, troubleshooting, calibration, validation, and improvement activities on electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, optical, and automated equipment or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and analyzes technical data using established formulas, procedures, and detailed mathematical calculations. Supports and may lead equipment improvement projects, process optimization activities, PLC and HMI programming changes, lean manufacturing initiatives, scrap reduction efforts, OEE improvement actions, and equipment validation activities. For higher levels, may suggest and/or implement improvements to optimize work processes, equipment reliability, safety, quality, availability, and production performance.

• Performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical areas.
• Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.
• Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
• Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format.
• Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions.

TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and performs detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes.

Responsible for working with supervisor to implement adjustments or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of job area and/or functions.

Communication and Influence: Communicates typically with internal contacts, including participating in benchmarking other business units.

Obtains and provides technical information on matters of significant importance to one or more job areas.

Leadership and Talent Management: May act as a team leader or coach and assistant to the supervisor / manager.

May delegate tasks to other team members and be responsible for the review of work product and processes.

Does not have formal management responsibilities, but provides input to people management decisions in this area.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires specialized expertise of systems, techniques, tools and procedures typically obtained through prior related work experience, training, and/or education.

Requires 7+ years of relevant technical experience, which may include a combination of practical experience and applicable training, education, or certification.

No minimum education requirement.

Some countries/ jobs may require vocational training and/or certification.
