Internship: Project Engineering - Digital Engineering & Manufacturing
Location: Carlow
Duration: 6 months or longer

As an Intern within our Engineering and Manufacturing organisation, you will work alongside engineers, automation specialists, and operations teams to deliver projects that create measurable improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and user experience.
This role is ideal for students studying Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Manufacturing Technology, Data Analytics, or related disciplines who are looking for hands-on industry experience and the opportunity to identify and develop a final-year project with real business impact.
Responsibilities
- Support engineering, automation, and manufacturing teams in the execution of process improvement and digital transformation initiatives.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and visual management tools that improve visibility of operational performance, actions, and business metrics.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques to investigate recurring issues and identify sustainable improvements.
- Analyse operational and engineering data to identify trends, opportunities, and performance improvements.
- Support implementation of connected worker technologies, workflow digitisation, and manufacturing excellence initiatives.
- Contribute ideas that make engineering spaces more engaging, connected, and human while maintaining the standards expected within a regulated industry.
- Participate in cross-functional projects involving manufacturing, engineering, automation, quality, maintenance, and continuous improvement teams.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, standard work, and process maps.
- Help create solutions that people talk about, remember, and proudly show to others because they are both useful and well designed
- Own an individual improvement project with defined deliverables and present outcomes to site leadership at the conclusion of the placement.
Qualifications
- Currently completing 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of a Degree or Masters programme where an internship or work placement forms part of the course requirements.
- Studying Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Computer Science, Software Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related STE(A)M discipline.
- Demonstrated interest in technology, digitalisation, automation, data analysis, or problem solving.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
Preferred
- Knowledge with programming, scripting, automation, or data analysis tools.
- Knowledge with Power Platform, Power BI, Python, SQL, C#, JavaScript, PLC programming, or similar technologies.
- Participation in university projects, competitions, societies, robotics teams, hackathons, or maker activities.
- An interest in applying engineering and technology solutions within advanced manufacturing environments.
- An appreciation for thoughtful design and the confidence to challenge conventional approaches where a better solution exists.
- A curiosity for how technology, automation, and design can come together to create solutions that people genuinely want to use.
Additional Work-Life Information
- Typical expectation is to be present onsite in Carlow Monday to Friday 0900hrs to 1700hrs with performance-based remote working opportunities.
