(SC cleared) Senior OpenShift Platform Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior OpenShift Platform Engineer to support and modernise enterprise container platforms hosting business-critical applications within a secure defence environment.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on OpenShift platform support, container management, deployment automation, runtime engineering, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, operational resilience and technical troubleshooting.

The successful candidate will work closely with client and supplier teams to assess existing environments, resolve technical issues, improve operational stability and support future platform evolution. The role is expected to involve a mixture of on-premise, hosted and secure infrastructure environments rather than purely public cloud platforms.

• Salary range of £70k-£80k

• Able to work part-time initially and up to full-time when required, with regular onsite presence in Bristol or Milton Keynes

What you will do

As the Identity & Directory Architect, you will own the technical architecture across the identity and directory domain and provide leadership from initial assessment and design through transition and implementation.

You will:

· Assess existing OpenShift environments, container images, deployment processes and technical dependencies.

· Diagnose and resolve platform, container, build and runtime issues.

· Improve deployment automation and build processes.

· Manage remediation of security vulnerabilities and technical debt.

· Support monitoring, logging and operational support capabilities.

· Improve platform resilience, recoverability and operational readiness.

· Support Java and Tomcat-based application runtimes from a platform perspective.

· Investigate technical incidents and provide specialist engineering support.

· Produce operational documentation, runbooks and technical guidance.

· Transfer knowledge to client technical teams and contribute to future roadmaps.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience administering and supporting Red Hat OpenShift.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts and operations.
• Experience with container technologies including Docker, container images and container registries.
• Experience supporting production application platforms and resolving complex technical issues.
• Experience with build pipelines, deployment tooling and release processes.
• Strong Linux administration experience, preferably RHEL-based environments.
• Experience with monitoring, logging and operational support tooling.
• Experience identifying and remediating platform and container vulnerabilities.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience producing operational and technical documentation.
• Ability to work effectively within secure and regulated environments.

Desirable Experience:

• Java application hosting environments.
• Apache Tomcat.
• Red Hat JBoss Web Server (JWS).
• Container platform modernisation programmes.
• Runtime upgrades and dependency remediation.
• Infrastructure automation and configuration management.
• Defence, aerospace, government or other highly regulated sectors.
• Experience operating within Security Cleared environments.
