THE ROLE

At the conclusion of this position, co-ops will have increased their knowledge of investing, the mutual fund industry, employee engagement, and a firm understanding of how corporate finance works at an asset manager.
MFS co-op positions are a 6-month commitment, working Monday - Friday (beginning on Wednesday, January 13th through Friday June 25th, 2027), and work between 35-40 hours. Our program is designed for undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a co-op program through their college or university and can meet our requirements.
JOB SUMMARY
Underthe direction of theInternal Controls Manager, administer variousrisk management andinternal control initiatives and activities. Assist Fund Treasury business process ownersin identifyinganddocumenting keyrisks andinternal controls, and in developing orupdating appropriate policies and procedures. Maintain internal controlsdocumentation. Learnabout the daily,monthly and annualprocesses relatedtoa mutual fund, including assisting Fund Treasury with vendor payments and supporting Accounting Oversight with ad hoc assignments. Learn about accounting andcustody agent due diligence,oversight, andassessment techniques.Learn aboutthe purpose and usefulness of serviceorganizationcontrol reports (SOC 1, SOC 2), includingtechniques to review,analyze,summarize, and communicate keypoints to management. Assist theInternal Controls Manager incross-functional risk, control,andregulatory projects as opportunities arise.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Learnsandapplies internalcontrol techniques withrespect to Fund Treasury business processes.
Assists inidentifyingthe keycontrol points of a system or operationalprocess to ensure that procedures are developedcompletely, accurately, and inaccordance withMFS standards.
Learnto effectively evaluate, document, and/or flowchart business processes witha focus on identifying keyrisks andcontrols.
Maintainprocedures and internal control documentation inDIVA, MFS' proprietary multi-functional database.
Instruct and coordinate payment instructions to external vendors to ensure payments are made timely and accurately.
Assists in preparation and monitoring of asset based fees, expense caps, fund expense ratios, expense budgets, and prepares additional deliverables as needed.
Participate in a wide range ofprojects related to risk and internal control and/or fund accounting&custody oversightfunctions.
Support Accounting Oversight with various ad hoc projects and calculations of fund distributions.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A stronginterest and willingnessto learnabout the financialservices industry,particularly mutual funds, securities, and compliance.
A stronginterest and willingnessto learnand apply skills relating to internalcontrol frameworks, therisk assessment process, as wellas policy andprocedure analysis and/or development.
Solidanalytical,organizational,writtenandverbalcommunication skills.
Familiarity withthe Sarbanes-Oxley Act (Section 302) helpful.
Familiarity withserviceorganization control reports(SOC 1, SOC 2) helpful.
Hourly Pay Rate: $21.00-$25.00
