As an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer, you will design and engineer outside plant routing for MSFTs metro and long-haul connectivity requirements. You will work with our Sourcing team, our delivery team, and our fiber providers to ensure our diversity standards are met. This opportunity will allow you to contribute to building a world-class network infrastructure by working with Metro Dark Fiber, Long-Haul Fiber, subsea, and Lit Wave circuits. You will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities
- Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of datacenter activities.
- Outside Plant (OSP) optical Design, Planning and Engineering for new and existing regions.
- Communicate with all peers and departments to ensure optical designs meet Microsoft and Industry standards.
- Approving vendor designs, conducting site walks, permitting, and performing quality assurance inspections.
- Reading and understanding highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities and select routing required for work projects.
- Optical fiber test results analysis for Microsoft’s metro, regional fabric, and long-haul networks is delivered adhering to Microsoft Standards.
- Maintain accurate cable records and updates.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years experience in Outside Plant Telecom Engineering.
- 5+ years designing fiber and OSP, including cable sizing and cable counts, and selecting between aerial and underground construction methods.
- Proficiency in CAD and GIS design and mapping tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and blueprints, and to produce and maintain detailed technical documentation.
Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
