Senior Software Engineer - AI Platform

Our platform enables first-party and third-party product teams and developers to build high-quality, reliable, and responsible AI-powered experiences across a broad range of devices and hardware configurations. It brings together model integration, developer APIs and SDKs, evaluation and quality measurement, runtime orchestration, observability, and production engineering. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of platform-level AI capabilities, establish strong engineering patterns, and drive execution across engineering, product, and applied science teams. You will translate ambiguous needs into clear technical direction and ensure that the platform remains efficient, compatible, secure, responsible, and dependable across device classes, silicon partners, application scenarios, and release channels.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of high-quality Windows AI platform components, services, APIs, SDKs, evaluation systems, and developer tooling.

• Translate ambiguous product and platform needs into clear technical plans, milestones, interfaces, and engineering investments.

• Define scalable patterns for model onboarding, inference, orchestration, versioning, compatibility, telemetry, and lifecycle management.

• Design architecture that scales across Windows device classes, silicon partners, application scenarios, and release channels while preserving API consistency, backward compatibility, and manageable operational cost.

• Drive end-to-end quality strategy, including automated evaluation, output-quality regression, performance, power, memory, reliability, security, privacy, and responsible AI validation.

• Lead open-ended technical investigations and guide successful prototypes from experimentation into robust production platform features.

• Own observability, incident prevention and response, safe rollout, servicing, backward compatibility, and continuous improvement.

• Partner across organizational boundaries with product managers, applied scientists, engineering teams, and senior technical leaders to align dependencies and deliver cohesive platform solutions.

• Raise engineering standards through design and code reviews, maintainability, operability, and mentoring of other engineers.

• Communicate technical strategy, risks, trade-offs, and outcomes clearly to engineering and leadership audiences.

• Champion AI-assisted engineering practices, automation, and data-driven decision-making to improve development velocity and software quality.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 8+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent experience.

• Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, C#, Python, or equivalent.

• Strong understanding of software and API design, testing, debugging, data structures, algorithms, and source-control practices.

• Demonstrated experience designing and shipping complex production software, developer platforms, cloud services, or distributed systems.

• Proven ability to lead technical execution across multiple contributors or partner teams and deliver through ambiguity.

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep experience with AI/ML platforms, model-serving or inference systems, agent frameworks, evaluation infrastructure, or AI developer tooling.

• Experience defining quality metrics, evaluation datasets, regression gates, experimentation frameworks, and release criteria for AI systems.

• Experience with Azure, cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, CI/CD, observability, security, and production operations.

• Experience with Windows development technologies, Visual Studio, Windows SDK, WinAppSDK, low-level systems programming, Windows servicing, OS integration, compatibility, or multi-device platform architecture.

• Experience designing public developer APIs or contributing to open-source projects and developer ecosystems.

• Working knowledge of responsible AI, privacy, security, accessibility, compliance, and data-governance requirements.
