Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Tobacco Treatment Program (TTP) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our team and support patients working to reduce or stop tobacco use.

The APP will work collaboratively with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team to assess patients, develop individualized tobacco treatment plans, provide evidence-based counseling, and manage appropriate pharmacologic therapies. This is a great opportunity for an APP interested in preventive care, behavioral health, oncology, and helping patients make meaningful changes that support their overall health and cancer care.

Role Overview:

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of patients referred for tobacco treatment

  • Develop individualized tobacco cessation and tobacco reduction treatment plans based on each patient's needs, goals, and readiness for change

  • Provide evidence-based counseling and behavioral interventions to support tobacco cessation

  • Prescribe and manage appropriate tobacco cessation medications within scope of practice

  • While treating tobacco dependence, the clinician will also address psychological distress and evaluate, manage, and treat comorbid psychiatric conditions, including other substance use conditions. The clinician will deliver a range of evidence-based interventions, including CBT, motivational interviewing (MI), and meaning-centered interventions.

  • Monitor treatment response, medication tolerance, and progress toward patient goals

  • Educate patients and families about tobacco use, cessation strategies, and available resources

  • Collaborate with oncology providers and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to coordinate treatment

  • Provide appropriate follow-up and adjust treatment plans based on patient response

  • Document assessments, treatment plans, and follow-up care accurately and timely in Epic

  • Support the ongoing clinical needs and QI initiatives of the Tobacco Treatment Program

Key Qualifications:

  • Current New York State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

  • Current New Jersey licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is preferred

  • Appropriate board certification and graduate of an accredited NP or PA program

  • APP experience preferred

  • Candidates with demonstrated experience in tobacco treatment or addiction medicine and/or those who have completed Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training with a national certification (NCTTP and/or CPAHA full certification) are preferred.

  • Strong patient education, counseling, and motivational interviewing skills

  • Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team

  • Schedule: Per Diem As Needed

  • Reporting to: Director, APP and Director, Tobacco Treatment Program

Per Diem Rate: $88/hr.
