Zonal Support Engineer - Overhead Lines

As activity across the network continues to grow, we're looking for someone with Overhead Line (OHL) operations experience to help strengthen operational resilience, risk management and compliance across our Overhead Line Operations team.

As an OHL Zonal Support Engineer, you'll provide operational support across the UK, working closely with the wider OHL leadership team to support the delivery of key operational priorities. This is a mobile national role, with travel across the country and occasional overnight stays. You will be provided with a company car to support national travel requirements.

You'll be joining a national support capability that helps our operational teams stay prepared, informed and equipped to deliver work safely and consistently as the volume and complexity of activity across the network continues to increase.

What You’ll Do:

  • Identify, coordinate and manage operational risks, dependencies and constraints across OHL operations.
  • Support the delivery of statutory inspections, equipment readiness, fleet management, resilience planning and emergency response activities.
  • Work with operational teams, suppliers and technical forums to support OHL services and contracts.
  • Produce clear actions, readiness updates, trackers and senior leadership briefings from operational information.
  • Help ensure OHL operations remain supported, compliant and operationally ready as the workplan grows.
  • Collaborate with training, competence, recruitment and onboarding teams to support workforce readiness.
  • Provide OHL expertise and input into wider Asset Operations processes.
  • Promote safe, consistent and effective ways of working across the OHL function.

What You’ll Have:

  • Relevant OHL or comparable safety-critical operational, engineering, risk, compliance, resilience, planning or coordination experience.
  • A minimum HNC in a relevant discipline is essential, along with a NEBOSH General Certificate or a commitment to work towards achieving this qualification.
  • Good knowledge of OHL work, safety, equipment, authorisations, statutory inspection requirements and operational compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, stakeholder and communication skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

It would also be great if you have;

  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience coordinating operational readiness, risk and resilience activity, and producing senior stakeholder updates.

If you’re ready to use your OHL experience to help manage risk, strengthen resilience and support safe delivery across a growing network, we’d love to hear from you.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Get:

£56,579 - £65,000 dependent on experience.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance, Job Requirement Car and competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
