About the Role

You'll own the Commercial Analytics data platform in Microsoft Fabric - how data is ingested, modeled, secured and served across our Power BI reports, client extracts and internal tools. You'll lead new initiatives from first stakeholder conversation through to production. In your first year, you'll get up to speed on our pipelines and reporting, help migrate Azure Data Factory pipelines and legacy SSRS reports to Fabric, and add CI validation alongside our existing DevOps pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead new initiatives end to end: meet directly with stakeholders and clients to gather requirements, design solutions and deliver them to production.
• Make architecture decisions across ingestion, transformation, storage and modeling, including how lakehouses, warehouses, workspaces and environments are organized.
• Design and maintain ELT pipelines from SQL Server, Azure SQL, REST APIs and SaaS platforms, with incremental loads, safe reruns and clear failure handling.
• Design and maintain dimensional data models for analytics and reporting.
• Build the views, stored procedures and curated tables behind our Power BI semantic models, dashboards and internal tools, including reading existing DAX and Power Query and moving logic upstream where it belongs.
• Implement data validation, monitoring, logging and alerting to catch and resolve issues quickly.
• Tune queries and pipelines for performance as data volumes grow.
• Manage access control, database and user provisioning, and data sharing with internal teams and external partners.
• Document lineage, architecture and data processes.
• Review code, share patterns and help set the team's engineering standards.
• Evaluate new Fabric features and tools, run proofs of concept and bring the team improvements worth adopting.

Skills and Qualifications

• 3+ years of data engineering experience, including owning production pipelines and data models in a cloud environment.
• Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience is preferred. Strong experience with Azure Data Factory with Synapse or Databricks, or with Databricks on another cloud, is also a great fit.
• Advanced SQL on large relational datasets, including views, stored procedures, performance tuning and incremental and merge patterns.
• Strong dimensional modeling experience, using Kimball methodology.
• Experience building datasets for Power BI, and enough DAX and Power Query to read a semantic model and understand what it does.
• Python (PySpark or pandas) for ingestion, validation and automation.
• Experience integrating REST APIs, including authentication, pagination and rate limits.
• Experience with governance practices such as access control, data security and usage monitoring.
• Git-based development and CI/CD, ideally with Azure DevOps.
• Daily use of AI coding tools, with a clear understanding of everything you ship. Claude Code is strongly preferred.
• Experience leading data projects end to end, from requirements to production.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• SSRS experience.
• DBA-adjacent experience: creating databases, users and permissions, and data masking.
• dbt or a similar transformation framework.
• Experience with migration projects.
• Financial services, mortgage or lending data.
• Row-level security in Power BI or Fabric.
• DP-700 or DP-600 certification.
