Director, Technical Marketing Engineer

Job Summary

Are you ready to build and lead NetApp's technical marketing presence in India? As Director, Technical Marketing Engineering, you will build NetApp's center of excellence for technical marketing in our Bangalore, India office. from the ground up: taking on an early-stage team and rapidly growing both its size and its impact.

You will be both a team builder and have the hands-on technical credibility to inspire, measure, and improve the capabilities of world-class Technical Marketing Engineers (TMEs). NetApp TMEs own technical marketing end-to-end for one or more assigned technology areas: defining the technical narrative, value proposition, claims, and competitive story for integrated solutions that solve customer challenges using NetApp products and, where relevant, partner products. As the team's leader, you will set the technical and quality bar for the team, and build the org design, hiring plan, and structure the team needs as it scales.

You will do this working side-by-side with Product Marketers as part of the Integrated Product & Platform Marketing (IPPM) organization's Technical Evangelism & Marketing (TEM) function, and in partnership with Product Management and Engineering teams in India and worldwide. As the senior TME leader based in Bangalore, you will be the primary point of local leadership and escalation for India-based Product Management and Engineering partners, and you will partner closely with peer TME leaders across the Americas and EMEA to keep one consistent technical narrative and operating model across every region, while fully owning the TME charter for your assigned subset of products and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead the Bangalore TME team: hire, onboard, and develop talent, scaling from today's strong team toward a full regional center of excellence.
• Serve as the senior in-region point of contact for India-based Product Management and Engineering partners, providing local leadership and time-zone coverage for both your covered products, and in partnership with your peer TME leaders for other products and solutions. Will be required to work in-person in the local NetApp Bangalore office a majority of the time.
• Own technical marketing end-to-end for multiple assigned technology areas. Own the team that defines the technical narrative, claims, proof of value, and competitive story for integrated solutions, integrated into the overall narrative set by Product Marketing.
• Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering across the product lifecycle, in India and globally, to build - and ensure your team builds - expert-level understanding of assigned products and solutions, their place in the NetApp portfolio, and how they solve customer challenges.
• Direct, and personally contribute to, your team's production of consistent, high-quality technical content and enablement: technical reports, whitepapers, reference architectures, blogs, videos, technical talk tracks, demos, and other advanced technical enablement.
• Oversee your team's self-service interactive assets, including demos, sandboxes, and TCO/ROI calculators, built with the latest AI-enabled demo-creation tools and instrumented to capture usage and customer intelligence.
• Ensure your team is visible as trusted technical subject-matter experts, evangelizing NetApp and assigned technologies at conferences, in webinars, on video, and on social media with clear, compelling technical storytelling.
• Synthesize input from customers, field teams, and sales gathered through your team's work as technical SMEs, and channel it to Product Management to inform the roadmap.
• Partner with peer TME leaders across the Americas and EMEA, and with the broader IPPM Technical Evangelism & Marketing (TEM) function, to keep one consistent technical narrative, one content standard, and one operating model across every region.

Job Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in technical marketing or related roles that span technology and marketing, including several years in a people-management or team-lead capacity.
• Proven track record building, scaling, and leading a high-performing technical team from the ground up, including hiring, developing, and managing talent. Prior experience hiring and developing technical talent in the Bangalore area strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated expert-level understanding in one or more enterprise technology areas, as a proof point of the ability to attain - and coach others toward - expert-level understanding of additional technology areas. Existing expertise in NetApp technologies or the data infrastructure market is highly desired but not required.
• Demonstrated ability to craft, and to coach others to craft, technical narratives, value proof, and competitive positioning for integrated solutions.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and storytelling skills, with a track record of setting and holding a quality bar across a team's content and enablement output.
• Proven experience building and managing demos and showcase environments at scale, including demo catalogs, sandboxes, and self-service experiences; familiarity with modern AI-enabled demo-creation tools is highly desired.
• Strong business acumen and comfort operating as a hands-on player-coach, capable of deep technical knowledge, but passionate about delegating and teaching to develop the same skills in your team.
• Strong cross-functional and cross-regional collaboration skills, able to represent Bangalore and India within a globally distributed team and partner effectively with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing leaders across time zones.
• Confident as a public speaker and on-camera presenter, with experience coaching others to present confidently to technical and executive audiences.
• Facility with competitive/alternatives analysis and building data-backed, testable claims.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
